Other than the obvious good quality lid & boots, what's your views on body protection for general purpose non competitive off road / enduro ?

Under vest full armour with kidney & back protection or over vest stone / chest guards with seperate kidney belt or just decent enduro armoured jacket ?

Neck brace or not ?

Knee pads - brace or none ?

RE: What

i don't wear body armour in the fens, i might in wales etc where the rocks are but the knees and legs need protection not the chest and elbows. don't need a kidney belt for green laning . all IMHO of course!

regards

taffy

No matter what kind of riding I'm doing, play riding or racing I wear the following:

Arai MXC pro helmet.

Scott series 89 goggles. When racing I use roll -offs. I also use baby oil on the vent foam to keep the dust out.

Alpine stars Tech 8 boots (I've had these boots for 8 years almost and they're great!

Sinisalo over the body chest protector-I like this one b/c it has protection for your spine almost down to your butt.

Thor fore arm and elbow guards-the most comfortable I've found.

Shift knee guards-the look pretty old school but they are comfortable and offer good protection. I keep thinking about knee braces, I've looked at them several times at the store, hopefully someday soon I'll get some and report back on them.

Kevco 10" kidney belt.

Oneal gloves. Nobody really makes any good off road gloves anymore though, ones with good padding on the back of the hands and fingers.

I pretty much always wear Sahara riding gear unless it's in the 20's that - C for you metric folks. Then I wear my Moose Monarch Pass pants and Jacket. I also wear those socks that come up to your thighs to keep my legs from getting chaffed. I wear Moose riding shorts with a the pad pockets in them, if you don't wear these you don't know what your missing, and that is no monkey butt!!

And for hydration I wear a camel back system with 100 ounces of water.

My buddy bought a leatt brace a while back, and unfortunately the first weekend out he got to try it out, got bucked off around 30 or 40mph and landed on his head and right shoulder. However, he swears by it even though he broke his collar bone. He told me the next day that his neck was not sore at all, and considering the fall he took, was okay with the broken collar bone. I have been thinking about one, have even tried one at the local shop, I have been wanting to take my chest protector and helmet down to the shop and let the fella's help me try it out. It has several adjustments so that you can kind of custom fit it to your body. They seem like a good idea. Will let you all know if I get one and how it works out.

The standard Boots (Gaerne), helmet (Aria), knee guards adn mx pants jersey. As far as chest protector / upper body armor, it depends upon the terrain. When it is very rocky and fast I use the EVS body suit (with LOTS of extra venting holes), other wise I use a small (Axo) foam chest protector (to slow down objects trying to penetrate my chest). I am seriously contemplating a Leatt neck brace, although as I understand it, it is most effective when doing (head) diggers in sand.

joe rocket body armor

joe rocket super moto gloves ,thick leather with plastic knuckle guards . i hit the deck recently and i had my hand stuck under the bar , these gloves saved my hand .

axo knee guards , the pivot type .

alpinestar tech 3 boots .

smith , oakley , scott goggles ... with iridium , clear , and day glow lens .

leather jacket , this has saved me from much pain , gets hot in warm weather , toasty warm when it's cold .

Thor quadrant protector with a 661 neck roll, One Trooper helmet (limited Bailey edition, wrapped in Ol'Glory, makes me look American), the pants I wear have hip guards and soft padding in many places, an unknown brand I forgot but much better quality than any big brand. Boots are Fly Talons, they are excellent and offer as much protection as a pair or Alpinestars for half the price. Knee guars are simple EVS shells, but the pants also have padding there.

The chest protector I upgraded from the big fall of two years ago, where I did not wear any arms protection and guess what part of my body broke?

Troy Lee SE2 lid, sidi boots (love'm), 661 chest protector when moto'n, fly back pack w/ 70oz hydration system and 661 neck roll for trail rides, moose kidney belt, old school knee pads, 661 elbow pads, Answer over the boot pants w/ padding, these pants have pockets and belt loops which is nice for us fat boys and the pockets are great for maps and such. Thor enduro jacket for the cold and wet days, sleeves come off to make a vest, very nice. It takes a lot of experimentation to find the right combo for you, but I hope this gives you some ideas.

Anyone know how well Kevlar reinforced pants such as Draggin Jeans work? Recently crashed on the road & took a piece out of me leg with the footpeg.

Had on a Yes fibreglass MX helmet that got cracked pretty hard on the road - didn't even get a headache! High aluminium capped safety boots (not bike ones), leather jacket, no armour.

70 lbs. of natures finest insulation and every guard I can find. I'm gonna work on dropping 30 lbs. on insulation......I hope it does'nt become a safety issue

Ok, I'm going to take you to the gym at every lunch break. How 'bout that?

I ride in the usual stuff. Alpinestars t6, some pants and shirt. The brand doesn't matter, same ****.
Spend your money on a good protection vest, a REALLY good helmet and knee braces Don´t forget your feet (they are hard to come by)
A helmet i recommend is Airoh stealth (size m 950gr that´s 2.09 Lbs).
Use a light and tight helmet and save your neck.

draggin ' jeans have a good reputation believe me , yes the leather jacket really does the job

Oxtar TCX Pro Boots, dirty and noisy - the pivot squeeks like a bunch of horny mice at an orgy. Oneil f/g lid, Oneil Hardwear or Shift Strike gear, Shift armoured jacket, sinisalo or shift gloves, 4 kilo hydration and helmet cam pack and tool belt with jelly snakes and EPIRB (for riding alone).

have tried the 661 pressure suit - they are the gear, I want one.

Azza.

Thanks for all the posts.

Think I know which way I'm going with this...whatever suits you the best as if your numbers up your numbers up.

Read an artical last year in some MX mag, this chap fell off in the paddock..5mph.. broke his neck.

I'll let you know what gear I finally get & how it performs but def going for knee pads & body shirt with built in spine.

Its really just the neck brace thing I'm still unsure of.

17 Months on and haven't really done very much - bit of green laning etc. Main activity is our locak MX track to give support to my boy Tom (9) on his KX 65. (FE501 a bit heavy for this & front light keeps beraking at the lugs - but it's a great laugh & rush if u dont take yourself to seroiusly)

I use fly helmet - seems to do the job - fly boots ditto (actually very comfortable even though ankle not hinged) - Wulf one piece (2nd hand e-bay) armour shirt, chest shoulders arms kidney etc - MX pants & shirt.

I HAVE A PAIR OF WULF KNEE PROTECTORS (just the knee cap disc and a bit down the shin) WHICH I NEVER WEAR (not going to hit a tree on a mx track in the fens am I ???) WHICH TOM KEEPS MOANING AT ME ABOUT.

Yesterday the track was like concrete - front washed away on a flat corner & I went bang down on my left knee. Swollen like a balloon. No real damage done I hope.

I WILL WEAR KNEE PROTECTORS NEXT TIME.

I love the Alpinestars bionic pressure suit. I tried a lot of the others, 661, acerbis etc and they didn't fit worth a damn but this one is great. Mostly string mesh and really well made. A great all in one solution for thje body. I'm struggling with knee braces tho. I got some Thor ones and I just can't wear 'em. Soooo uncomfortable and I cant bend my leg enough to kick the bike properly. Does anyone have a recomendation for this problem?
