All About Valve Springs! (with nice pics)

I like the Idea of the compressor. Great! I quickly calculated with an estimated valve diameter of 30mm and 8 bar pressure that there will be 57.6kg force on the valve to hold it in place.
I won´t let a valve collet drop... hopefully :) I´m currently in front of my computer and the husa is far away. Just to confirm: The spark plug thread is 10x1, right? So I can order the hose. Compressor is available. Aside from tools, are there more things to prepare / buy? Sealing mass, Spare seals, etc.

Sorry for the questions. I´ll do the work in my flat and there is no room for the husa for a long time, so I want to be prepared. Ant it´s my first time working on a Husaberg.

You need to borrow or buy one like this mate. They are more a size suitable for light automotive but do some checking, hopefully won't be too big. Or you could just make something if money's tight? If you can get another pair of hands on the job to remove/refit the collets, the spring can be pushed down by two hands. I'm thinking a tool that resembles a die holder (as in tap and die) if you follow me? Push down with both hands....

Also a telescopic magnet is handy for the collets. Cheap and inexpensive....

Good on you for doing the job mate

The tool is quite cheap. I ordered that one for less than 20€ incl. shipping:

Thaks for your help! Lots of helpful input!

Put a little dab of grease on the inside of each collet so it sticks to the valve stem before you ease the pressure off of the springs....one of em always wants to escape.

Spark plug is 12mm X 1.25 pitch

Could use a fitting from a compression tester as above or from a cylinder leakage gauge set

Hi all

I am a proud owner of FE400e 2002/2003 hybrid of some sort, with most upgrades installed, just dvsk required before I can reclaim some of the money it owes me from the (5-7?) years it had been a project bike. I have stock oem 35/27 valves in it, which appear to be in good condition, no tulipping etc.

I happen to have 2 ktm dvsk kits but cannot understand whether either is compatible and the steps involved in getting it properly installed into the husaberg.
I have someone with machining know how, so no issue making shims or bottom seating washer etc.

Left to right:
1. KTM VALVE SPRING KIT (4X) RAC. 01 59036028344 : Is this same as KTM VALVE SPRING KIT (1X) RAC 2001 59036028244 x 4? Bottom seating washer OD is smaller than oem so not a tight fit into head recess. Stack length is shorter than oem. How to deal with these issues? What installed height should the spring be at?

2. KTM 540 SX Double Valve Springs, not sure about part number but looks similar (I hope) to photo in owners docs (attached). Bottom seating washer OD is 0.62mm larger than oem so does not fit into oem recess. Machine down or make a new bottom seating washer? Stack height is very similar to oem, but spring is much shorter (due to fat bottom washer) and spring wire seems to be a lot thinner. Is this an option at all?

3. Husaberg FE400 OEM conical "explosive" valve spring.

4. Rough scale for reference...

Can someone please advice if either of the kits can be used in my FE400 or do I need to splash out on taffmeisters original kit / kibblewhite kit, or motoren-israel original racing kit? All three options look terribly pricy given the bike is 20 years old now and it might be cheaper to keep stock till it explodes and accidentally falls of a cliff 😳

Good people please help!
