Home made pipe guard - do you think it'll work?

While at Home depot I ran across some Foam Pipe Insulation and figured why not use those to keep my pants from constantly melting when touching the side pipes.

I thought of putting a layer of Parchment Paper to prevent the foam from sticking to the pipe but I'm not sure it'll help cause the Parchment Paper is for up to 420°F and I guess the pipes will go a lot hotter..

Do you think it can work? any dangers I might have over looked? I don't believe this materials can catch fire, they should only melt if the heat is too high...

worst case scenario I wasted $1.5...

Not a good idea! If that stuff doesn't ignite, it will certainly melt into a gooey mess on your bike. It's just cheap foam, not some space age heat resistant material from NASA!!! Do you realize how freaking hot your headers get?

If you'd have posted this two days from now, I would have said, April Fools! :lol:

You might look into header/exhaust wrap. Several guys here have used it with good results.

You have to remember you bought a Swedish racing motorcycle. It not a water heater. They had Performance when it was designed it. You can get the header wrap for $19 at your local dealer or Cycle Gear. Be careful that stuff will melt and cause some damage or burn you really bad.

bad idea .

if its to late and you started the bike any ways and theres a big mess , you can clean it with some stainless steel pot scubbers when its hot, be careful.

also buy the titanium heat wrap a hole large roll will do and start from the back of the pipe ,wrap it tight and then use plumbers clamps to hold it in place :cheers:
