starter

Im a newby husaberg owner so be gentle. I have a 2005 fe550 and im having starter issues. The starter is only engaging and turning the motor intermittently. When it doesnt engage it just makes a whirring noise. Battery is fully charged Makes starting a frustrating routine. Ideas?

just a quick one am I right in thinking that if I remove this plate this is where I fit the starter motor it looks to me like someone has done a starter delete on this bike as all the switches are there for an electric start also all the wiring? bike is a 2003 fe501e Thanks for the input!
