wossner warning!

you know, i've had to alter my habits and change my values here since i started in business but one thing i feel should never change is warnings on how to avoid trouble!

i have had a pitiful time with a wossner 95mm. the oil ring is made up of three parts, there is a concertina spring in the middle and 2 very thin rings to go one either side.

well the side rings can actually fall off the spring and then there is no pressure from the rings and the bike becomes smokin joe frazer!

i'll let you know how it goes because i'm trying to mix the old spring from a different manufacturer and the rings from wossner......

ANYONE ELSE EVER HAD TROUBLE LIKE THIS?

when i rebuilt my 04 501 with a oe piston 95mm found out there not machined to clear the bottom of the piston to the counter balance drive gear !results lots alloy swarf in your filter

All I can say is that on my old 501 with factory piston, I had Deves ( Swedish CO ) Los Angeles div make me custom Comp & Oil ring, the oil ring was also the 3 piece design which is std race issue in many forms of racing, I know they can be tricky to install because the expander can easily overlap rather than butt together. the Deves ring set ran great in SoCal desert from trail to high speed riding up to 115 deg air temps with no smoking or excessive oil consumption. Hope your problem was just odd an one

if the piston cost you Ã‚Â£105-Ã‚Â£135 it's a wossner which isn't OEM. OEM pistons are around Ã‚Â£250 i believe?

gear graunching piston
i had the same thing happen on my HC piston for the 400. it was a 92mm HC piston made by wiseco and it took 5mm off the underside of the piston to help it clear the gear. there was only 0.5mm of piston left under the ring land.

turned out i had a piston from a 1997-2000 400. maybe you had the same for your 501?

No taff the piston was a boni fida oe piston even with my limited eye sight,i know the difference between wossaname pistons and genuine thing .
i even had to send my old piston back to ktm uk to show the the missing machining ,even though they sent me another piston which i had to get 60 thou machined off

welli tried the mixing and matching and it didn't work! smokin joe again!

i want a 95mm oil control ring that works. anyone know for sure if OEM has a 2-piece (spring inside a ring i trust) ring. they are nearly all 3mm wide nowadays but i need to order rings and if you can help me here i'll get it sorted.
