I'm about to tear my FE 450 -08 apart and replace some bearings. There's nothin wrong with the bike but the hours is running away.

Now to my question:
I'm planing to replace crankchaft bearing, balancer shaft bearing, timing valve bearing, timing chain, tensioner and the rings and gaskets. Is there anything I should do that I've forgotten or whatever!?! Give me tips and trix...

At 140 hrs. I would check valve adjustment and timing chain stretch. Nothing else unless there was metal fragments in the oil filter or screens.
If it ain't broke, don't fix it!!

Yes the cam followers, and the valve springs.

Seems to me that you are into your engine a bit early, except for the cam followers. But if you have been riding it hard then only you would know.

If you are splitting the cases you will be getting a gasket set of course. Be sure and change the clutch side crank seal if it does not come with the kit.

The stock valve springs are known for a couple of things, one is that there is a lot of pre tension on the valves thus causing the cam follower wear. Some folks go with the dual valve spring kit, contact Taffy about them, I believe the are Kibble/White if I am not mistaken. Taffy has been putting these in for some time, and save a lot of wear on the whole valve train.

While you have the head off, you might as well do a valve job on it too. From what I have read/heard, the five angle cut job is the best.

+1 for me

My 04 450 now has 200+ hours, still doesnt use oil, still goes very hard. It is actually in my 08 450 frame after the 08 engine broke in style. (valve adjuster nut was overtorqued by previous owner $1700 repair). I replaced my timing chain at 150 hours.

There are 450 people on here with some VERY HIGH hours with no or very little work at all.

I've now turned over 200 hrs and almost 8,000 kms on the 650 with a cam chain and DVSK at about 160 hrs. All good. My 501 still has the original bottom end at 33,000 kms.

Unless you've worked it really hard, don't change the oil, or have a known problem, I reckon that 140 hrs is premature for a bottom end.

There is nothing wrong with that but we are just pointing out that i might be a little to early to go all the way down to the bottom end this early if there are no signs of problem. Nothing wrong to take of the clutch cover and open the head and have a look.

check the compression, replace cam chain, cam followers and valve springs.
Get the dual valve springs from taffy, the original conical ones are prone to breaking.

But If you have been revving it to the moon and riding it hard then it might be a good idea to have a look at the bottom end specially the big end.

Sorry for interrupting ,but what about the valve springs of 2001-2003 engines, though are those also weak and may brake? and can't fit the Taffy's dual springs to 2003 engine any way ?

DO NOT WANT TO SCARE ANYONE BUT MY 05 FS 650 ,MAINS WENT AT 79HOURS WHICH TOOK OUT LINER,PISTON
SO HAD TO HAVE FULL REBUILD ALL BEARINGS CONROD LINER PISTON ETC ,AND I CHANGE THE OIL AND FILTER EVERY 3-5 HOURS AND TWICE ON A TRACKDAY ,BUT GETTING ENGINE BACK TOMORROW AND THEN GET IT ALL BACK TOGETHER 8)

My mains did fail at 90 hours to, It is common knowledge that the 2004 and 2005 engines where assembled with the wrong endfloat. I increased end float an used these mains: TMB 206 JR2 C3 on clutch side and the stock on ignition side.

TMB 206 JR2 C3 part no 0625060206 available at you local ktm dealer.

This is a 2008 450 it should be very reliable.
Mostly 550 and 650 had mains problems which was supposedly fixed in 2007 -2008.

Regards

my 07 550 has few frags of metal on oil plug i have just pulled motor out at 70 hours, get a refresh through out the motor and get orangebergs special crank bearings chucked in, im from aus there is a much higher problem over here with these bikes for some reason.

best bike i ever had tho :)
