HI guys have a FE501E
It has a digital dash and a yellow seat.
The Eng no is 5012642
The aussie plate says it was made in 08/02
the berg plate has
e5*92/61*0001*03
Vin = YU7fe5e8x30000023
so what have i got as far as the parts book goes. Ithink its a 2003 but not sure. Basically I need a sump plug and they show different no's in the 2002 and 2003 book

That's an 03. They didn't start with the digital dash until 03. Plus, the seats are yellow then too. I have a post you can search for regarding making the digital dash more useful, if you are interested.

NOW confused

Ok I have a digital dash but only one plug, I dont have the magnetic plug, could I have a mid model bike ie if it was made in 8/2002 do I have a good motor or not????
 
It sounds like an 03 to me. As far as the motor, I would say it probably has the updates. The best way to tellwould be to pull the rocker cover and see if it has the updated rockers. I have pictures of the updated rockers in my gallery.
 
What diameter has your front wheel axle?
If it´s 20mm it is a ´02, if it´s 26mm it´s a ´03.
The 2003 model has for example the voltage regulator underneath the seat, mounted to the splash shield.

I also only know one difference between ´02 and ´03 you can see without disassembling the engine - and that´s the magnetic oil plug.
But maybe you have an early ´03 model which has got double bearing counter balancer and roller bearings for the crankshaft.
But in my opinion both ´02 and ´03 engines are good.

You said you need a sump plug. What do you mean with that? The oil drain plug? I think the threads are of the same dimenions.

i need a sump plug as the last owner has rounded it to buggery. At the moment I have lock wired it and am only just nipping it up however the parts numbers are different from 03 on. I have contacted the local berg dealer but have not heard anything.

AS to the axle which diameter are you asking about, i have just pulled it out and its 20mm.
so some how i have a 02 model with digital speedo. will have to wait to pull the head over off to check rockers
