02' 501 bike with 03' 650 auto decomp; question

Just for your information, the 04 and 05 Bergs all use the same Auto Decompression Shaft, part number 590.36.016.000.

Regards,

Joe

Would be interesting to have both in hand along with a micrometer and verify this. Dealers?

650 decomp

the 650 decomp is the same heigth as the 501
but has a wider tip for more bleed off.

Mr Boss, does it cause any starting problems to install the 650 decompressor in a 501, as in bleeding off too much compression, or would it be a help to let the starter spin easier?

decompressor

I have not known of a decomp
that could bleed off too much,
but will let things spin easier.

Guess that solves this mystery. The starting issues on this thread must be other the installation of the 650 decompressor

You are correct Dan! BOSS called monday morning and offered to install a new (non-03') decomp device. This seemed to make no difference at all. We then tried a new stator but in the process of switching, a bullitt connector from the coil easily broke so we replaced it. We did get the bike to e-start a time or two with the new stator but not consistently. We turned out the fuel screw on the dellorto and had more success. We decided to give my old stator another try but before doing so, replaced the remaining two bullitt conectors from the coil. My bike now e-starts consistently although usually with a loud pop! Before taking it to BOSS, I had changed from a 38 pilot to a 33 but ended up with a 35 to try to get rid of the pop.

She still pops on e-start, but a pop is something I can live with. You would think the pop, or backfire, would be a lean condition. At night, the pop shows up as a 4-5" long blue flame so I'm wondering if there is possibly a rich condition as she lights off extra gas in the exhaust. I'll fiddle with the carb some more when I find time.

Not sure exactly what remedied the e-start situation.
1. Changing decomp device? (don't think so)
2. new bullitt conections?
3. leaner pilot?
4. richer setting with fuel mixture screw?
5. Husaberg Gods showing pity on my soul?
6. Combo of all above?

Going riding/camping this weekend so we'll see how she behaves!

Thanks everyone!
Thanks BOSS for your concern and help!

p.s. I have ordered a ground strap from Gorrilla cables.

Hi Rick:

Where will you be grounding to. Starter bracket? More than one ground?

Please post your Gorilla cable results. I have wondered if these would make an appreciable difference.

Thanks,

Eric

Yes Eric,
I will ground to the starter bracket as well as leave the factory ground intact. I'll let you know the results.

For now, I'm on my way to to the Wenatchee forest of Washington state for a weekend of camping and riding! Entiat area.....:D
