I just did another oil change and I noticed the inside of the filter housing wasn't the normal clean machined surface - alot of it was but there was also thin crud zones, grey in color in various spots around the housing.
I can't imagine what this is and I don't recall it being there last time - any ideas?
It does come off if you work at and most of it is beyond the rough casting ring (ie beyond 1inch into the housing) It comes off like a thin smear of grey silicone would if you worked it off with your fingers...
