Hi Dan
I wish I had the answers.
My suggestion was really on the lines of creating a store, local to the various countries, whilst the actual on-line shopping could be done in America.
Nothing is easy... If it was - someone else would have done it by now.

I can confirm however, a need for on-line 'berg' spares in England.
I know DCR. has all the rights, but for how long ?
Husabergs are becoming very popular over here, catching up to the KTM sales - Someone will be cashing in soon....
I would rather it be someone like yourself, from this site.

Ady

on-line store

Hey json, The store idea is great! I have one concern, if we buy all our parts here, then how will our local dealers stay alive? Most bike shops make there money on parts and accessories, not bike sales. I would say keep the store for hard to get things like Husaberg gear or special items that we may be interested in like aftermarket parts that are may be hard to track down. I don't have a problem with on-line purchases and do not feel that I need to talk to some one to buy a part, I do want to see our dealers prosper though. Thanks.

I don't think that anyone would suggest that you do not support your local dealer. If you have a Husaberg dealer near you consider yourself lucky. Many do not. If you don't this would be a great way to get what you need and know that you are conducting your transaction with someone who has a proven track record. Also the consumer always benefits from a little competition anyway.

Husaberg dealers tend to be smallish and if the shop has "gone racing" for a week and you can't wait that long this could be a just what you need.

Well now that I have your attention :) Maybe you could get BOSS to come around a bit more often. I ordered a few things from him and he was quite knowledgeable and generous with his time discussing Berg's with me. We need all the help we can get. No one has all the answers and no one is infallible so he needn't be shy.

Check what Pat did for KTMTalk.com: took him a long time to HTMLize the fiches (hours spent creating HTML maps) but it paid off. Now he's in cahoot with Chip Munk (sorry) and they're making millions.

For what its worth: Most of my stuff for my bikes and myself came via online stores. I am in South Africa and I found that even with relatively high shipping costs from the US - you can get stuff here for less than 1/2 of normal retail.

I must say though that the local Husaberg importer is not ripping people like the local KTM importer but things like wheels, sprockets, steering dampers are much cheaper via online.

E-V-E-R-Y-T-H-I-N-G

yes, I want every last freakin thing that is for a Husaberg to fix it, modify it, mount on it and t-shirts too. I think I prefer the online store because I do most of my ordering at night.

patience is a virtue....kind of....

hey there sir,

The store is close to going live. All it's lacking is some testing and one last bit of info from the proprietor.

When it opens, it's initially going to have wear items for the most part, gaskets, seals, chains & sprockets, brakepads, filters, and stuff of that sort. Depending on the reception, it will be determined what needs to be added at a later time.

I had hoped to have it up and running by now, but sometimes real life gets in the way :)

thanks,

Only thing....when this site also becomes an online store as well, will people feel that they should support financially it as now it has a way to make profits.Correct or not ,those that have supported this site in the past may feel a little "used" as the site makes this change. As a retailer I can assure you that retailing is a two way street,be prepared to spend much time dealing with problems of supply, returns and other aspects of the sale you have no control over.
Having an online store may be a good idea for many husaberg customers, but it is likey that this site will be changed forever....nsman

Hi nsman,

fret not good sir. The only way we would have to worry about your concerns would be if I were to make a single red penny on this endeavor, and true to form, this will not be happening. The store is run by a separate entity, with no ties to this site. I'm doing it because people need an online outlet to buy parts, and also, Dan of MotoXotica has done a lot to help this site in the past and it's a way for me to say thanks. Also, the store won't be on this site. It's a different site, run by different people, so this site won't be changing in any way except for a link pointing to it.

On a related note, concerning your statement that donators would feel used: I would just like to say that if there's anyone here that feels that way, please let me know and I'll return any money you've donated. I've run this site for over 8 years, more than 40 hours a week most weeks, on top of a normal living, and paid for it all until January 2003, when donations started. Even now, I pay more every month than I receive, so it's still costing a pretty penny. Now if I visited a site like this, I would hope that the owner eventually make some money off of it, not feel used! I would hope that none of the members here would be that petty and small minded.

But you see all of this is a moot point, and I shouldn't get worked up. Rest easy that this site will always cost me money and not the other way around.

thanks,
json

:D If in fact the online store is not part of this site then of course all my previous post points are null and void.

Slightly related.
I was talking to Alex at DCR today and he is interested in being a part of this site, although he confesses his is not IT literate, but one of his team is.
When i told him that i reckoned there was probably 100 Berg users in the UK browsing the site, he was surprised... So, then i casually mentioned 'wouldn't it be nice to have something on-line and linked the UHE', to which he agreed and suggested somebody called him about it.
I hope im not speaking out of turn. I know you are wanting to welcome DCR on board.

indeed!

Hi Ady,

I've always hoped that DCR would participate on the site, and had high hopes at one point, but we've already talked about that :)

Sir, I'm going to shoot you a PM for the remainder(secret batman stuff).

thanks,
