Hi everyone,

I've been working with Dan(MotoXotica) on getting a proper and better designed store up and running, and we're to the part where it's time to populate the cart with the parts that will be sold.

That being said, before we do that, we both wanted to know what everyone thought. What do you want in an online shopping system? 10 most commonly needed parts, everything under the sun or consumables only?

Please let us know what you think the perfect store would be for you, to give us a better idea of what we need to invest our time into.

Be sure to leave some comments if you have any ideas or criticism.

thanks,

Hi json and all,

I just call Dan direct and order what I need. It usually shows up in a few days unless he has to order it, and then only a few days more unless it is back ordered.

The things I have ordered from Dan in the past range from new ignition stators for the 2000 Berg (twice) to gasket sets, pistons, connecting rod kits, rocker arms, cams, water pump impellers, seals, etc. He has always had this to me within a week or so. I ordered a wagon load of things for him to set up my new Berg in his shop, remember Dan!

So far only a couple of things were 'unobtainable', so I just made due with alternative solutions.

For some folks an online store may be the answer, but for me, I prefer to speak with Dan or Ann directly on my Husaberg part needs!

Hi Joe,

Being one who hates to talk on the phone, I've always been thankful for the ability to purchase without having to talk to anyone.

Is there anything in the online purchase process that makes you wary of purchasing via that method, or do you just like personal service better?

My dad used to refuse to purchase online, then he found Amazon. Now we can't keep his CC in his wallet :)

thanks,
json

I personally enjoy talking with Dan or Ann. Although it has always been business related it is a good feeling when you have someone on the phone who will go out of there way to help you out and realizes that without customers you have nothing.

from a business point of view, it must get very busy sometimes in their shop and with the push for bergs it will only get busier. A method of ordering parts and supplies that takes less time would allow him to keep prices from rising to much and to take care of the customers who really need the one on one. I would venture to say that most users of this site have a parts catalog and can specify exactly what parts they need without having to take up precious time talking with in house customers as I know I have done. I have been in their shop at times when they seem busy and I can tell they don't like having to ask a customer wait while they take a phone call and vice versa.

I would order online in a heart beat from them.

Hi Json,

No I have nothing against ordering things online. I deal on line with large volume folks that have what I need in stock at a great price. Thats where I get ALL of my motorcycle tires, bearings (if I can wait a day), riding gear, computer parts, green coffee beans; you name it! I enjoy talking with Dan and Ann, and knowing that my order will be processed that day. In addition to having the parts I need in stock or ALMOST in stock,They have a personal touch that is sadly missing in the retail business these days. That is why I deal with them!!

I also have purchased one motorcycle from them and will most likely purchase my next one from them when the time comes.

Regards,

Joe

json,
One of the best features of the forums that I've found is getting info about parts and accessories (where to get them, quality of different suppliers, etc...) for bergs. I have a dealer close by, but really dislike their practices so I don't use them if I don't have to. An online store that had normal maintenance parts as well as unique accessories and parts would be great! Especially for older bergs...

Thanks,

Hi all

Obviously I think we need to include all the aftermarket products that are availible on the market, soom of which, I have found right here on this awsome site.

Fred

I think Rob and Penman are right. What would make this marketplace unique is an assemblence of every conceiveable aftermarket part made for Husabergs. Not only would it drive people to the site it would actually spur on future parts development as there would be a great starting place for an entrepreneur to market their wares. Next would be consumables and then OEM parts.

A clearinghouse for all things Husaberg would be the most unique motorcycle store concept around and a great addition to these forums.

So when can we order that imported Italian aluminum gas tank? :)

This is great idea, IMHO.

I do not have any dealers in my area to buy parts from. Every part I have ordered has been over the phone. So, for someone like me, this would be great.

Possible features:
-discount on certain high volume items. Maybe a discount at $100, $200, $300 intervals...
-Certain percentage of sales donated to THIS site
-feature that would simply allow you to put in a Berg part number, for stuff that might not be listed on the new marketplace (with a disclaimer that you get the part number you order, even if you screw it up!) kinda like a super wish list, type in the numbers, 5 days later they arrive
-List some of that wierd stuff that people don't know exists, like that canopy on the front page
-Free Husaberg sticker with any purchase
-Crap people complain about not getting, like Euopean only stuff (black plastic comes to mind)
-Predone kits- I buy new rockers, I get the rocker cover gaskets included, drivetrain kit would come with chain and gears...
-PICTURES- worth a thousand words, and people like to see what they are buying before they do, exerts that same impulse shopping mentality

That's about all that's on my mind right now.

Definately some excellent ideas Luke.

The cart allows for discounts & coupons, so the option is always there if Dan opts to use it.

Due to the fact that Dan sells his stuff so close to cost, it's not feasible to take a cut of that. Also, I pictured the site being soley to help the members here and as a thank you to Dan who has helped countless guys in keeping their bikes going even during the brand's toughest time.

It will be searchable by part number, but I'm not sure how we'd integrate the wildcard part purchase into it. To be purchased, the part's data needs to be in the system, so you'd have to have it available in the cart for purchase.

Pictures will be included.

Dan is better suited to respond to the rest of your points.

Some great ideas sir. Thanks for taking the time.

thanks,

I really like KTMTalk's setup. Everything's available. A flat 10% off.

I'm not sure what their algorythm is, but you never really know where the parts will come from. But they DO show up, and fast too!

I really like the active parts explosions - just *click* and buy...

more ideas...

Hi Ken,

I've not looked at Pat's cart, but I will tonight.

See the problem is that Pat is a proficient coder. I on the other hand am more of a script kiddie in the fact that I can muddle and eventually get close to what I intended but very rarely do I actually achieve grand endeavors in the realm of .php.

The part explosions would be simple imagemaps, which wouldn't be hard to do. The tough part would be to pass all the sales variables in the link.

Regardless, it's an awesome idea. I'll have to see how much Dan plans on offering on the site. If it's a considerable amount, it would indeed be worth doing.

thanks,
json

Hey json
not everything they make you need a wormhole
That way every one who places
a order you could populate the store with it and
life would be great as it would be at their door
before they knew they needed it.

ps. thanks for sending me to jedi this place is cool
see ya aug 5/6/7

Hi
Would love the facility available in the UK.
Unfortunately can't see DCR going for it.
Maybe computer wizzkids from other countries like ours could set up some kind of franchise. Go Worldwide .... please.

Regards
Ady

Hi Ady,

There's really nothing I'd like better than to do the same in England, Aus, etc. However, we have NO dealer or distributor participation from the UK, and have not heard from an Aus dealer in a long time other than in passing.

As I'm sure you can understand, I would never jump into an endeavor like this without having dealt with the people for some time. At the rate the other countries' dealers and distribs are joining in, your grandchildren might get to order a part locally through this venue ;)

thanks,
json

We must walk before we can run so lets be realistic with this second attempt at an online store.what I am asking is what stuff do you want?do you want frequently needed oem parts only?do you want some aftermarket items as well?do you want some merchandise that is not even part of a motorcycle like goggles or boots for example?the last store I featured 13 different types of products, some were popular and others nobody bought.we had valve cover and clutch cover gaskets, hand grips, air filters several different brake pads, spark plugs, front and rear spockets with different sizes and brands offered, chains in several lengths and from 2 manufactures, fork seals and oil filters.all of these items sold pretty regularly except the hand grips.i am thinking we could add clutch ,brake levers and gear shift levers, and waterpump seals and gaskets.perhaps we could do a few items that people use like goggles or gloves for instance.look forward to your feedback and comments as that is why this topic was origionally posted.Dan.

Dan that sounds fine. My dealer still needs my support! so I will still be ordering all my repair parts through his dealer ship, so long as it works for me. Motoxotica is a fine dealer with a parts record second to none. If my dealer fails to support my needs they'd be my nexted stop.

I would like to be able to purchase some Berger action cards. I have heard they are very tradeable. 8)

Hope to see you at the east coast ride Ken..

Hi Json
Regarding franchise's in other countries...
I say. Where there's a will - there's a relative.

If it can be done you would have mine and most of my Berg friends for support.
Appreciate your efforts

Regards
Ady

Guaranteed insured shipping to other countries is generally expensive and makes the total cost of the products very expensive.generally speaking, the only parts we send to England for instance are ones someone desperatly needs or it is outright bargain priced to begin with.as an example ,we sold a new supermoto front wheel assy to some one in Dungannon Tyrone in the UK the other day and UPS got $130 for shipping.Hard to make it a good deal for the customer or the store with so much money going to shipping.dan.
