I know I should reroute the oil breather tube, but I figure I hardly ever put my bike upside down and if I did I could pick it up quickly. Well I was dropping off a mountain today and while going down I dropped off some rocks when the front wheel stuck. Two good cartwheel flips, boy I was lucky I am not hurt, and the bike was upside down. As I was going over the front wheel, I tried to bail off the right side of the bike, and it worked until my left foot got caught (under the seat?) and brought the bike down right on top of me. 8O . After the first flip my foot was still caught and proceeded to follow the bike for another. Needless to say it took me a minute to pick-up the bike and about ten minutes of idleing with the choke on to clean it out, the bike wouldnt run w/out the choke or with the throttle opened. After that it ran good, just needs a new rear fender.

Glad to hear you're okay. At a national Hare & Hound a few years back I got off my bike to bull dog it down a hill and I grabbed the little spoiler thingie on my hand guard and it broke off and the bike went for a nice tumble down the rocky hill. LIke you I had to sit there idling for a while before I could get going.

I couldn't figure out why it wouldn't stay running at first, until I happened to look over to the left and could see the shadow of me and the bike while it was idling and I could see all this smoke coming out the pipe!!

It's cool that all that got damaged was your rear fender!!

Thanx Dale.

Right before I flipped I was checking my front brake, it seemed that it was hitting my finger (I use index for braking) before I got full breaking. Well I think it was probably just sliding.

I have been practicing a lot lately! I want a number one plate back for next year. A couple of guys I ride with have given me guff for getting a 'berg. It's gonna break, the shock isn't progressive enough, you need a 250 2smoke, that thing is a streetbike (refering to my FE650). All it has done is encouraged me to hit the gym, train more and spend more time getting the berg dialed. The more I ride it the less I miss my 520.

ajt,
Do you ride in one of the age classes, like Over 30, or in a displacement class? you'll have a distinct advantage in the wide open spaces of No. Nevada.
My older model 501 is bored out to 520 and is massively reworked. The only bike that has ever pulled me in up the dry creek beds was a 650 and he had to work to do it. You ARE NOT at a disadvantage.

WOW sounds like a hell of a wreck! I'm glade to hear that you survived with out too much pain. Sounds like you'll be giving Andrew a call? I've always worried that when I wad I'll get my boot caught in the seat space. Ride hard That 650 will get you that #1 plate back, all she wants is a lot of faith! Have you told Andrew about your quest for that plate? He's cares and always have been a big help with my racing!

Dez, I run in the open class since I am only 21 years old. Ya the 650 has all the power you need!! Few of our races are wide-open, most avg speeds are about 30mph for us leaders. Which is fine as the berg is really light and nimble to throw around. I am hoping to team up with someone for Vegas-to-Reno, where the 650 can really shine, and ride the open expert class. I got second a few years ago with some guys from my club.

Ya, Andy has definately been very cool. I just got a tall seat foam and cover from him, made by Blackbird Racing. Very reasonable pricing. I have faith in the berg, every time I twist the throttle it lets me know it is ready and willing to go  . I am getting pretty close to having the suspension dialed, as well as my conditioning, which will bring the speed I need to compete at the level I want. I am religous with maintainance; oil changes, filter cleanings, valve adjustments. Beleive it or not I actually enjoy working on my bike.

Ya, I did'nt feel that the engine was all that tough to work on! Good luck with your quest

ajt,
Thanks for the clarification. I misled myself when I read that some of your friends were suggesting that you get a 250.
I ran in the Open Expert class back in the mid to late 70's here in Southern Nevada and our averages were not too much higher than yours are today.. Our bikes were obviously not as sophisticated as the ones of today and a lot more high speed (less technical) sections were in the races back then. The lowest earned number that I got was #7, so while I wasn't a slug I couldn't quite keep pace with the fastest riders. I rode Husqvarna's, so even though I hadn't heard of Husabergs yet I still gravitated to a Swedish bike. If MRAN had an Over 60 class I'd be more competitive today than I was then, and I'd ride a Husaberg.
If you can get a second place finish in any class in the 'Vegas to Reno race you are a rocket. Good luck on finding the right team mates, and stay on the Berg.

I am getting pretty close to having the suspension dialed...

Check out the comments made about Terry Hays needle and the reactive fork springs over at the "Suspension" forum at KTMTalk.com. The needle especially is supposed to make a big difference for the WP shocks. RaceTech and WP are both supposed to be picking up rights to the design.

Hey Dez, Do you ride any of the Mran. It would be nice if they had another NvS shootout again. Up here we have a over 60 class with some pretty fast riders. Anyone that rides as an expert, knows how to ride.

Power, I am thinking about trying the Race-tech shock spring first, its about 30% more progressive. Just need more time experimenting a little here a little there and it will be great. No real complaints, just my ole 520 was set perfectly, best suspension I have ever ridden (McCoy and I revalved it about 4 or 5 times, Each time it got a little better). Its not quite as smooth, works great when your charging 100%. I Probably will be able to sort it out with the clickers and preload adjustments.

ajt,
I'm still a card carrying MRAN member, but due to the advance of arthritis in my knees and a couple of heart attacks I've been forced to slow down a bit. I hope to get going again within the next couple of months and be able to get out for the Force Ride when it comes together.
MRAN's age classes stop at Over 45, and giving away up to 15 years to some very tough competitors is too much of a handicap to make it serious, so I just ride for fun. Thanks for asking.
