weight loss

I am trying to lose a few pounds off both my bike 2010 fx450 and my fat old body. it looks like the battery is a good start but I was wondering if adding a slip on exhaust like a FMF 4.1 will save some too. Also that Akropovic slip on in the for sale section is tempting since I know their quality is good, but is it any lighter than stock ?

The akra slipon is lighter without doubt. How much I cant remember. Better sound and some effect too.

But what I really wanted to say is; if you go for a light weight battery, DO NOT buy a Shorai.

Again, DO NOT buy a Shorai. I and many others have reported numerous Shorai failures in the past. The TurnTech 5Ah battery has proven to work better, last longer, plus is less expensive.

I have the full titanium 4.1 fmf megabomb system on my 570 and it is much lighter than the original! Makes a great noise even with the spark arrestor insert fitted and it feels crisper in the midrange, could just be my imagination though!

the fmf 4.1 titannium silencer is only 0.5kg lighter than stock I'm pretty sure the akrapovic is a few 100grams lighter but I'm very happy with my fmf also got the fmf headers last week they are WAY lighter than stock headers but forgot to put them on the scale before installing
The complete stock exhaust system is only 4kg so not much to win there....
I also got a lithium (skyrich) battery only 600grams vs 2000 stock and lighter wheels -2.5kg (sumo)
But I do'nt think my bike is 5 kg lighter thann stock maybe 3-4.... (also added weight like handguards/fan kit/axle protectors...)

Since you're bringing it up yourself...

Loosing bodyfat is an easy and inexpensive way of loosing overall weight .. go down that path - you'll even feel better to :bounce3:

starting the husaberg with recluse, if batt dies

i'm a 2cnd owner, previous orig owner put in a turntech , 2010 570 fe - now 2013, and i bought a shorai, won't put it in now, cause of the heads up,,,, the shorai is so dam lite!!! but if it has problems, then not worth it

i have a recluse, the 5/600 dollar version, love it, but--- can't bump start and depend on the battery when i'm in the middle of no where,

really would love some advice on what my options are with a recluse that doesn't have a manual way to turn on or off, and if my batt dies,,,,

I agree ... My suspension guy told me I needed a heavier spring for my weight (fat ***). That was the catalyst, lost 25lbs. This winter. How can you ever shave 25 lbs off a husaberg? I feel better, we will see how it works out this season.

You could also use the money you save on parts and join a gym.

FMf 4.1 is just a little bit over 1 lb in savings. I have had no trouble with the Shorai battery - it saved over three lbs.

Thanks for the Ideas. I am currently going to the Gym & working out 3 to 5 days a week. I am eating healthier and with more moderation so the wieght should just fall off my 6 ft tall 245 pound frame. I should be able to fit into my old 29" waisted leathers soon. Being 52 years old does has it's limitations like delusions. I know I'll never be skinny again, but I am working on being fit so I can ride more, faster, & longer. I just wish it wasn't so hard to lift that pig of a bike up onto a stand, my 1972 Husky is much lighter even though it has 2 rear shocks. I did buy a grab strap to put on the back end which should help. I also ordered the gas filter sock thingy for the tank. Any other upgrades or add ons I should consider ?????

What I will say about going to a LiPO battery is pay attention to which side pos and neg terminals are located on. I bought the Ballistic which is reverse from the OEM and ended up having to make a longer ground strap as flipping the battery is not easy without reworking everything fits together under under the seat.

Because?

Sorry for not explaining why and my late reply..
I wrote a post in the Shorai-thread so I just link it:

I recommend the links I posted. That is a thread made by a competent guy testing the battery. Not impressed..

One thing you might want to do in addition to the sock is to buy a 10 micron can-am filter that you install before the injector. That way you protect the precious and very expensive injector. KTM sell their own very small 10 micron filters, but the can-am has much bigger filter area so it can take more. You can also clean the filter instead of buying new ones.
I use to clean the injector occasionally by opening it up with a 9V battery and blowing compressed air the "wrong way" to clean it up. The front wheel gets a bit lighter after a clean-up so it seems like something do get stuck in the injector (then again I live in Sweden and the fuel is so contaminated with ethanol you wouldnt believe...).

I agree on the no Shorai comment. I have killed two of them on my FX450. Good customer service and warranty, but that doesn't help you to get your bike out of the woods.

I have the full FMF Ti powerbomb on my bike, it is alot lighter than stock. I have a turntech 7.5AH battery that Joe custom made as its the biggest, most powerful yet light battery you can fit in the bike..

The only other real "significant" weight savings you could do to the bike would be to run thin tubes, lower ply tires, Titanium shock spring. Obviously you can get crazy with titanium bolts, pegs, remove 6th gear, etc but all of those will still only add up to a couple pounds.

I have Showa forks on my FX which weigh a little less than the larger WP forks did, and I also have an Ohlins shock which weighs a bit less than the WP shock. The bike never feels light to lift through. Its somewhat the nature of the beast. The way the engine sits keeps the mass centralized in the bike which means it is up higher in the bike. Because of this, when you lean the bike a little bit it acts like a lever and feels heavier than it actually is. Its a matter of weight distribution.

If I ever hit the lottery, mark my words, I will make a new set of engine cases as well as do some serious lightening to the frame on this bike. I feel like a Berg FX450 that could weigh in at around 225LB would be about the best offroad bike you could get your hands on!

Hmm my Shorai has been fine? Well it's been sitting now over 6 months without use as the bike is still in bits but guess I should check the voltage and give it a slight charge before cranking the bike again. It has never let me down (don't ride in winter), and the reason why I got it was the weight.

If it craps on me, maybe the antigravity or turntech battery is next choice. But for now, I don't have anything bad to say of the Shorai.

My bike just emerged from it's winter storage and I put a FMF 4.1 on it. The pipe is considerably lighter a snap to install and really woke up the response and power. the only downside its the noise, and the $400 I spent. I can barely hear the intake noise from the air cleaner anymore. It came with a spark arrestor/quiet insert which I will try soon, but on the MX track I can at least hear my bike now. I used to feel like Ashley Fiolek only knowing when to shift by the feel of the bike with the obnoxious roar of the bikes at the start and when they were lapping me.

My shorai battery is great no problems, I cover it with a plastic bag when
I wash bike cos you can see its not fully water proof round the terminals.
I have mounted mine under the seat higher as 500gm will not be noticeable up higher,
So now it's out of weather and water, my bike is a 07 550. no problems with my bat
But the next one ill try one of the other brands as they boast about more crank amps,
And I like new things lol

I had a Shorai battery that went south after less than a year on my KTM. Shorai customer support was great, worked with me to determine what the problem was and it was replace without any issues. I went ahead and bought another one for my Husy based on their support and this experience. DK
