Not the perfect fit that you would like but this was their prototype that I got off eBay.de :D
 
Why not at the next 24-hour DR test send two teams: one with a stock FE550 and one with a totally tricked out 496 equipped with all the best aftermarket parts imaginable?

Hey fryguy, i look forward to seeing the peg set up. Boss is using pivot pegs which are good, but i need to lower them and move the back. All the mucking around with bar risers etc hasn't helped (it begins to affect sitting ergos), i need to move the pegs back to give me a better standing position.
 
Having spent 3 1/2 hrs swapping back and forth with a '06 exc525 (~510cc) the other day, I noted that the performance of the engine seemed very well suited to WEC/ISDE enduro format races. The motor allowed the rider to go very fast in technical and transport sections w/o using up the riders energy, bottom end power was smooth (some might say weak or boggy for a 500cc motor) and almost stall proof, yet it was very fast when you wicked it up. I can only imagine that the 496 WEC bike is made for perform similarly, and I eagerly await a report.
 
:D Well the first weekend was a day of trail clearing 5 hrs & only 22 miles,

not much to report other than it started easy felt light & can't wait to ride

it again! The following weekend we went back, no work just ride!

56 miles of tight single track lots of rocks roots ect. The bike has very

good maners for being a big bore no stahling or any hint of complaining

about the very slow mile per hour conditions, lots of clutch work getting

around the very tight corners & over the large rocks,very impressive!

I was told i had one more week before boxing it up & shipping her!

Best thing was the three day weekend!! & moisture east of the mountain!

Saturday was perfect no dust anywere, three of us went out for a 60 mile

ride the bike seemed to be pretty close on jetting never giving me any

sign's of trouble although i had to use the hot start a couple of times.

Still taking it easy she only has about 100mi on here,short shifting her

it was easy to keep the boy's right in front of me,then at 52 mi the tank

was empty, got two gatorade bottles full from my buddy & were back at

camp.I decided to lean out the needle a bit, change the oil for the third

time & see how she does? Well she does & she does very well i could

tell right away this thing is a very capable machine of running with any

open class bike in the dirt! Most of the next loop was single track trail

groomed & open,2nd through 4th sometimes touching 5th wow great

handleing very nimble cornering was superb the rush from corner to

corner was breathtaking easily pulling away from an 06 crf450x & 06

wr450 bolth being expert level at the next stop i guess my face said it

all, they bolth said guess thats gonna be your next bike a? I can't say

enough good things about this bike without sounding silly,well call me

silly cause this bike will put one big smile on your face,it pulls so good

right from the bottom,controlled, tracktion availible eveywere, right into

a very healthy mid were i found myself most all day dancing the front

end from corner to corner again & again ending the second ride with

a huge grin & hard__ 62 miles still gas in tank!! Later the next day after

changing air filter & oil again we went to do some two trackin! Well this

is were the 496 can do some damage to the 450's the bike was geared

to perfection 94 mph is what was poping up on the screen from time

to time & didn't seem to labor at all to get there time & time again!!

25 miles of two track with a buddy in the other rutt is heaven on earth!

through 4th there wasn't a huge differance but after that it was all over!!

With this bikes ability to do everything that it does so easily it makes

me ask why not build one of these for veges to reno? Well i could go on

about how cool this bike is but i hope whoever reads this gets the pic!

Lastly thanks Brett for letting me take care of her for you!! she's READY!
 
Regarding a production 496 - it's a very real possibility, but the 2007 models are already in production, so it would not happen until 2008. It will be discussed at our dealer meeting in August, as Husaberg's International Sales Manager will be in attendance.

Now, two more things to keep in mind - the bike that Rick is raving about is not a production bike, it would be very expensive to duplicate. But it could be duplicated, and I know just the guy to do it ;)

Thanks for the long awaited write-up Rick! Sounds like an awesome bike that we may be reading about in a future Dirtrider magazine review. Gotta love that possible displacement perfection.

When is the new model year information/details typically released to the public? I intended to purchase a '06 FE550e but after the poll about street legal status I thought I could wait and see what the '07's ended up being. If the '07's are in production could it be much longer until that information is available?

bergdude,they have put 4.6kg springs in front & i thought it was very

well balanced with the 80-250 rear!
