Water Pump Seals Gone??

I have a 'new to me' 08' Husaberg FE 550 with 14.5 hrs on it. It appears to be 'weeping' oil out of what looks like the water pump weep hole. This tells me that my water pump seals might be gone. :(

That being said, what is the cross reference to KTM odel (if it is; 530?) for the water pump seals? I don't have a Husaberg dealer near by but do have a large KTM dealer with soon to be Husaberg as well.

If anyone knows that would be great.

ditto!!
If your going to replace the seals, go with the Orangeberg kit. It is a little pricy, but well worth the effort.

Found info on this subject and saw the fix. Kind of a PIA seeing as I have such low hours on it.

Makes me wish I hadn't bought the thing.

$95 CND for the parts.

Mine has leaked a little oil from the weep hole since new and now with a 165 hrs it has never got any worse.
I would just keep an eye on it and if it starts leaking bad then replace it.

There is a chance it's just a little bearing grease leaking out. That happens some time.
But really.....I think your right. Sell the POS now and quit while your ahead. I here Honda makes a good bike, XR400 I think.

840km,

Buying a bike without researching it is a bit naive, especially something exotic.

If you would have researched it a little you would have know of the common problem Bergs have of liking to mark their territory while also making sure the owner checks their vitals regularly.

All bikes have problems but not all bikes are passionate.

Don't buy something special if you aren't willing to deal with the problems. Just buy one of the bikes from the big four and be content in having something to that gets you around the track. Performance has a price. It its too steep for you don't pay the entry.

Hope you see the light but if not someone is going to get a sweet deal.

This is one case where ignorance is not bliss.

Cheers!

Well, a littl naive then I am. I am to used to running machines that aren't broken from nearly new. This would be my 14th bike I've purchased in 7 years so my bad.

Guess a guy can't complain about the Berg on this sight without getting flamed.

nothing wrong with complaining, it is a very common issue though, a quick read of just about any section on this site would have told you to expect it so you can see where the guys are comming from its like complaining about too much snow on a ski site :)

FWIW friend of mine has a kawasaki 450f in 50 hrs hes had

broken piston

water pump seals gone

boils when pushed 1.8bar cap helps but it still sucks

cracked header pipe

2 clutches

plenty other incedental annoying stuff and we had to put 17 shims in the shock to stop it trying to kill him

if i give him a ride on my berg I have to near chase him down with a stick to get him off it

he'd swap with you in a flash :D

Yeah, those 550 POS. I'll take that lemon off your hands and dispose of it properly.....

1) seals are easy to replace
2) irritating till you spend quality time on her, Husey's grow on you!

A little seepage is normal, hence the "fix." Ride the piss out of her and do a little more research on here, it ticked me off too. But get over it.

Bought it strickly for dual purpose riding as I dought I will take it on the single track (to big, heavy, and powerful) that is home for my YZ and RM. There aren't a lot of guys on large bore thumpers that remotely take on the nasties up here. Even our Six Days guys all ride the 2 smokes in our area.

That being said, I am not an internet guru and rarely find the time to go on sites to do a lot of research.

Will look for seals and go from there.

840km,

Every bike/car I buy I do research on to know what to expect, especially if there are rumors of them being bombs. I usually by unique things so I would be and idiot for not. Help is not on the corner of this block or the next.

Husabergs have had that reputation. I looked into it. Felt I could deal with it and bought an '08 650 though it had that weep hole problem.

Why did I buy a new bike that already leaked oil? Because I saw the pluses out weigh the minuses and minuses were not major fixes.

If you're feelings are hurt by my comments I can't do much for you. I believe in, "saying it like it is."

When you don't know the common problems of something you are buying then you deserve the heartaches and headaches.

I'm rapidly approaching 200 hours on my baby with nothing more then the weephole problem. I knew this could be the case but did not know if it would be.

If you're the type that just buys things on a whim then you should be use to this kind of frustration from people that do their due diligence.

It's like buying a Ducati 996 and complaining some rocker arms went bad after 12,000 miles.

14 bike should at least put you up in your thirties so the prima donna days should be done. Thicker skin should have been developed by now.

Fix your bike and go ride. It'll be one of the best bikes you've ever owned though it is currently obsolete. I plan on picking up another one of these obsolete, territory marking things, I love this one so much. I'm so happy I didn't buy the 570, yet.

Cheers!

Wow, K2berg, nice note.

Yes, I am past my 30's (40) and I never buy things un-researched to a point. I can't/won't sit at nauseume on the internet and didn't even know this site existed to look at. I have 5 persons that I know, one of which has owned dealerships and Husabergs and ridden the Baja since the 70's or so who have the exact same bike and none of them mentioned the dreaded 'weep hole'. They were my research. His 550 just roached on his last baja trip in Feb, and one other fellow sold his. Guess I should have waited a bit to see how they made out.

As for 'thicker skin', I don't think you need to worry about that. I don't take offence. Just expressing my annoyance at the issue. I am a Japanese bike guy, 2 stroke at that, as I don't have the time, know how, willingness, or motivation to work on my bikes (I spend way to much time fixing my kids bikes). I do top ends and regular maintenance and that's about it. I bought this bike on a 'whim' for sure and even though it has great power I am annoyed with some of the 'Euroness' things as well.

Just not my gig I guess.

Is the kit from Orangeberg easy to install?

Thats alot of bikes dude, do you polish them much ?

I'm hard on my stuff, sometimes crappy ones get out there. I have a sled that has less then 500 miles on it and its on the second engine, the thing just sucks. If your bike sucks get a new one. # 15.

:D Dude there is nothing wrong with the orangeberg kit !

have one installed in my 650 '08 for the last 9 months and no leak !!

Ring the guys at orangeberg they will sort you out !

Only five bikes in the garage right now and one 4 wheeler for work. Rent sleds for work and won't own them as they can be tempermental for sure. I have worked my way around the 250F series/brands of bikes, a 400, 450 and now have settled on the 250 2-strokes (RM and YZ) for almost all of my riding. Suit the tough stuff for sure.

I ride a fair amount (about 100-120 hours/season) but don't race anymore.

The 550 would be for Baja as that was the intention this last Feb. however it didn't work out.

i have a newer weephole fix kit version available now with a bigger bearing for longer life, it comes with instructions how to fit. Go to my website www.orangehusaberg.com navigate to husaberg parts then weephole kit. you can purchase online its $85 aussie dollars plus shipping. One member commented it was a bit pricey, but if you buy the original bearing for $50 and have a mechanic replace it every 300 km because it keeps leaking maybe doing it once is a better, you do the maths.
