I`m having a problem with water getting into rubber boot on back of the carb, not sure if it`s coming in from the air filter or not. Please help it`s driving me mad.

is it after you've washed it?

is it after a wet ride?

squeeze the rubber boot in below the clip and if the clip falls off then you were always too close to falling off and now you know!

there is a little silicon mod you can try that's in the owners doc. look under 'fettling' and 'better than new'. not sure which mate.

Thank`s for the reply Taffy.
When washing i cover air filter with a plastic bag & have no problems.
The rubber boot is on properly & clips are OK.

Look at the Owber's Doc, there is an issue with water running down the top frame and into the air filter. If you make a little barrier out of silicone (like Angelina Jolie's lips) in front of the filter, the water will run down on the sides rather than into the air filter. On most bikes, the air filter is in the back, pointing down. The Bergs design proves its limits in wet conditions.

Thanks LeFrog, i`ll try this. The bergs should be submairines as the air filter is so high.
Cheers, bergman450.

Fix for water in carb

my friend makes nice aluminum plate with a rubber seal that uses the air filter screw. You end up with a completely sealed inlet: great for washing and also a must when you carry the bike in the back of the pickup truck when it is pouring rain!

He makes many other great things for his fs650 2004: kevlar skid plate, foot pegs for a passenger, etc.

I will get pictures of his creations!

RE: Fix for water in carb

Yes, Freema, we need more aftermarket parts but, from hearing somebody's comments, it seems that everybody thinks the same until something is available and few people actually buy the part.

Jason & Taffy, why don't we expand the Owner's Doc "goodies" section and add a list of all the aftermarket parts available out there.

I know Husabutt had done a list. It can only be improved.

We also need to know what is *really* needed. It seems there is a consensus about the big tank, but what about an oil cooler or a water guard for the air filter?

froggy

the owner's doc has nothing to do with json, i'm sure he'd agree. he has helped with a major breakdown and actually giving it status.

he does enough running the rest of the site i think you'd agree. i think maddel does 20% admin and i do 80% content in effort. having gone 3 months without touching it i swear on my mother's oath that i'm doing at least 2 hours per night and 10+ per week.

it's very time consuming. present effort is being centred around:

duplicating good info into 2 or 3 sections
clarifying 'clipped' and abbreviated information - much of it the 'clipped' stuff from the original word doc
re-positioning chapters, re-naming and creating new names or amalgamations of chapters
adding photos and crediting the right people
i have to put up regular threads just trying to get to the bottom of information (yesterday the duplex counterbalance bearing)

because aftermarket goodies are a choice, it's important that we have a good photo of everything and mostly people would prefer it fitted. we already have quite a bit in that section and when i get the chance i'll chase around all the goodies and make sure it's all updated.
if any company wants to be mentioned then drop us the photo and details and we'll try and get it on.

Take a look in my gallery if you need an intake cover for washing/traveling/maintenance, I have plenty available! Also try a little sealant around the carb boot, where it attaches to the frame helps with the water entering while riding problem. Hope this helps.

cheers bendberg (sorry, never spotted your name)

i've proposed nearluy 30 photos already and i'm only up to G. they're with martin (maddel) right now and when he gets a chance they'll go in. i did spot your work and i thought we already had that one up? oh well! if i haven't then it will (or have we already gott someone elses?) be up soon.

i enjjoy it and then i need a rest but i never dislike it.

and just for the record, most members at UHE are non-commital and therefore a bit lazy! it really is down to the few. i wish it wasn't lioke that but it is. the annoying thing is that there are several people who could help maddel onb the 'puter side and yet he has to do it on his own even though it's a foriegn language and he's only an occasional visitor.

so even more reason why now and aagain you should thank him for the great work he does.

do you all realise that without him, the doc would be just a bunch of paper sheets still......

Thanks Bendberg,
I always apply grease to air filter where it makes contact to frame.
I shall try the silicone lip on frame on top side of filter, hopefully this will do the trick as lots of water around Cornwall (England) at the moment.
Cheers bergman450.

Just looked at parts manual on the air filter section, what is the intake thottle? Part number 800.06.012.000.
any info would be good.
cheers bergman450.

The intake throttle is an air flow restrictor. They use these in Europe to limit the horsepower of the engine.

It's like the throttle stop on the WRFs. I guess it's also good to get California plates.... not.

Thanks Joe,
in other words throw the intake throttle away.

No, I would not throw it away. I don't know where you live or what the regulations are there, but I would keep it in the garage just in case I needed it in the future.

Without the throttle plate on the bike you may have to modify some of your jetting.

Joe
