Has anyone who has sold or tried to sell a bike in the classifieds been contacted by a person going by the name of Keown Hughes?

This person or group of people (as i have been contacted by 4 different "people" I would list there names but I deleted them and blocked addresses coming from their domains) say they are interested in the bike- talk it up and and then offer you a price and then request your bank account info so they can transfer money when you tell them that you won't give out info like that they back off and try to get other info from you- this will go on for a bit back and forth and when you tell them to take a hike- they come back on bended knee and state they are a legit buyer and want to send a cashiers check but need an name address and SSN! They won't call you or any thing- and they are pretty good at making you think they are legit- until they start asking for personal info- interesting thing is that this person or group has done this twice- once when my bike was listed back in august and now- both times my bike was not listed anywhere else but on UHE so they must have got the info from this site.

I was also contacted by a person who had even worse grammar skills than me- sounded like english was a second language (not that i have anything against people who have another primary language)- and offered money for the bike but they wanted to do what sounded like some funky money laundering scheme-

Anyway- not to sound preachy as most people here are much smarter than I, but be aware not only here but everywhere- there is never a good reason that you would need to give SSN#- bank account numbers- mother maiden name, anything- other than a mailing address and your name when selling your bike in a private transaction.

I think that the way the scam is played they want to give you a bogus check for more than the amount of the bike. You give them the bike and the overpayment difference. By the time their check bounces they are long gone. Securing your bank account number lets them know you are buying into the scam. I don't think they can do anything with it.
