Vinyl Tank Graphics, did i get screwed?

So, a long story short i had my gask tank wrapped by a local graphics shop.....

here is a pic of what they did look like:

great huh? so anyway, that was exactly two months ago, this is now (i know my shop is messy now LOL)

So did i get screwed?

shouldnt a profressional graphics place know this was going to happen? i mean they told me that if they didnt use the vinyl with the holes in it that it would bubble which made sense, the problem is that it is still very bubbly anyway(you cant see that part in the pictures) but obviously the neon yellow turned brown in just under two months. not a single drop of gasoline has touched them. i have only ridden while wearing clean oil free riding pants so no oil has came in contact and i dont wear shorts when i ride so oily skin rubbing is also not a factor.....

maybe i should have known better but thats not really my job to know that in this case.......

did they use substandard materials? any thoughts?

No thoughts? would it be wrong of me to expect something back like for them to help me cover another area on the bike? at either no charge or a huge discount........

would it be justified if they didnt help me out tp do some smoky donuts in there parking lot?

what would you guys do? nothing?

also to add to my frustration with the company they initally said 2 weeks turn around and it took 4 weeks and costed 50$ more than they estimated.......

not a single response in 85 veiws, maybe i wont try to help when you need it next time :| .........

I just want to know your opinion, am i over reacting or do i have a right to be pissed

Yeah, doesnt look good.

Have you approached the graphics guys?

If theyre local id want them to make me some more at no cost.

Or get the others done brown to match

yea it looks worse in real life too :( thanks for the response

i did approach them it was two days ago, (i am going to guess they will take a long time to call because of how terrible there first service was) they were going to call the graphic media company and see if they have any other recomendations, but really i dont even wat to try to put more on the tank really........unless its guaranteed. i was under the impression it would stay good for a couple years at least or untill i screwed it up........

i work in a new car service dept and if one of my guys screw something up i will get my asss chewed, for some reason i have a hard time bitching about things because i know all too much what its like to be on the other side.......

82 of those 85 views are likely search engines, anonymous visitors or spammers. There's not a lot of participatory traffic on this site anymore and you sometimes have be be a little patient(and refrain from threatening the people that might come along to help you in the future).

RE: your graphics. Am I mistaken in remembering that this occurs due to fuel permeating through the plastic? It's been too long for me to remember correctly, but I for sure remember people having issues with graphics on the older gen bikes.

I would think that the graphics co would replace the set as a good faith gesture(they already have the templates so it's just costing them a bit of plastic and ink) but if you've already received poor customer service from them, it seems like you might be trying to piss up a rope.

Sorry, I was one of those 85 views.

I think you did get screwed. They knew enough to perforate the tank area vinyl. They did a good job, but it seems the wrong vinyl/adhesive was used.
They should be willing to do a new set of tanks on another vinyl and you both call it good.

My Yamaha had tank plastics from One industries that lasted for a good 5 years before the adhesive started peeling. They never discolored.

In my eyes you got screwed.

I got a set of semi custom graphics made for my 2006 yz250 by TNT graphics for 150$ shipped. The tank vinyl Is perforated and bubbles once in a while but hasn't faded. I would contact the designer and see if he will give you a new set for no charge. I'm assuming that you made these yourself with a template which hopefully you keept and you can easily go to another manufacturer and get just the gas tank decals done. Just my 2 cents

I'm not familiar with the older 'Bergs but could the colour tone change be due to fuel vapour coming through a plastic tank, I've heard of such things happening before?

thanks guys for the replies, i dropped off my tank and left it with them and they designed the graphics and wrapped it so there really isnt a template, but i do have the final design in my email still even if they dont.....

i am sure that the color change is from the fuels in the tank but i have never heard of it happening this quickly........

also arent most all vinyls for dirtbikes are really thick, these are really thin like what is used on a car or something made of metal. i noticed itright awaybut never thought any difference though as they didnt warn me that it might happen and they arethe pro's here......this is why i never let anybody else work on my stuff

ill give them another couple days to call before i call them back.....

Sounds like its thin, cheap and ****** vinyl. Is that thin stuff up to the job?

Maybe thats why its discoloured so fast.

I once took some off an they were like vinyl floor tiles, i replaced them with cheap chinese ones an they lasted 2 minutes  im talkin £13.99 delivered cheap

You summed it up perfectly by saying.

Good graphics are something like 21mm thick. I would talk to another manufaturuer and forget these guys.

Hey Bergini,

I ordered the same decals, same problem with me, but no de-colouring. I think that it happens because the old tanks became porous. I have a little part without the holes and if i push on the bubbles it smells like fuel....till today i did not found any stickers that hold on the tank. May i ask if you bought the stickers online?

regards, a frustrated electrician ;-)

No i had a local graphics company make a set. i couldnt find a lot for aftermarket graphics that could be ordered to fit for pre-2000 husabergs

Dude, 21mm=3/4" :D

Good graphics are thick though. You're right.

 i saw that but wasnt gonna say anything, i assume he meant mil's like the measurment used to describe the thickness of paint....21 mils is like 5 sheets of standard thin printer paper or 21/1000"

and for the record 19mm=3/4" 21mm would be like 13/16ish

HA that's awesome that would be one really thick sticker. it should have been 21mils. Bergini at least you knew what measurements I was talking about
