I can sort a days ride in the Meon Valley, (north of Portsmouth to Alton)........ might mean a drive to a campsite after The Plain to minimise road riding on sunday though.

Can only do the end of July though...........after the weekend of the 16-17th.

back better then Bob?

I'm up for any of this but have yet to get confirmation from James and Fergus.

Taffy

so let's try for 23/24 July then.

23rd = salisbury plain with Fakesy leading
24th = Portsmouth/Alton area with Plumbob leading

can you recommend a campsite near to the start Plumbob? I guess we could come down saturday morning or friday night? James has further to go than me. go straight to SP with the bikes on the trailers then at the end of the day load up and sunday is much easier.

If we came down friday night I think we'd want to stay in the same place both nights. could be better to be near Alton and then the bikes are on the trailer already to get up to SP for the day. Sunday then becomes easier and no loading required.

If we're agreed? James has said he may not make the first choice though.... James????????????

Mark2eo would you like to join us again? your patch next time?

Sounds good to me, will start looking for camp sites and planning a route.

Found this site which is well placed for the M3 (A303 down to the Plains) and the lanes around the Alton area but seems a bit strict, or do they all sound like that in there rules?

cheers Carl

remember this route should start from the front flap of our tent!

Wyke Farm would give a 25 mile drive/ride on sunday morning unfortunately.

Going to have a look at one tomorrow thats within a couple of miles of the trails, the M27 and has a garage a few hundred yards away.

I am going to struggle to get away now, just used my last vouchers for the Welsh which was awesome and humbling. I don't think you can beat the riding experience available in Wales, it has everything and the space. Could Cypher get us into any of the forestry rides they have in Powys? I think I might be able to get some time away in autumn, I haven't got a clue how long you have to stick around when babies are born, it might arrive at any stage now! :bounce3:

Aug 13th 14th is nearest Weekend I've got free (might be able to book a couple of days off mid week though, but that would probably need to be August / Sept though).

Perhaps Taff & ****** do July with Bob & Fakesy etc & me & Ferg do the Brecon gap with Mark etc in Autumn.

well a week ago you were going to be OK James. well I won't get myself sorted to do this on my own, it's me that has the 150-200 mile trip down. so I'll go whenever you want to sort a date in august James. you name it and we can all work around that date.

I live near the salisbury plain. Couple of things worth considering:

- check it is open!! large sections can be closed if they have war games on. i dont know a good website but if you google it, you should get contact details and i have heard they are helpful.
- there is a big push by the wardens and police to clamp down on illegal riding, namely unregistered bikes and riding off byways (got stopped myself this weekend!!). many tracks look like byways but are military vehicle transition routes. we were very apologetic and friendley and they let us off but people have been fined for incorrect reg plates etc.
-there are a mass of lanes on the SP and also in the salisbury/shaftsbury area with direct links from the sp - well worth a visit. the ridgeway is also near by with a lot of byways around it.

hope that helps - sp is great fun so enjoy. when you are there, worth stopping to say hello to the wardens if you see them, there alright and helpful!

I'll be out on the Plain this weekend with my V5, insurance and licence in my bag. My bike has a road-legal number-plate and road-legal tyres too!

Spain becomes more attractive every day - roll on October!

BRILLIANT!!! We only had the one car stop us as we had strayed onto a tank transition route! You must have stolen a tank to attract that much heat.

Just invested in a Satmap; playing with it now and hope that will keep me on the straight and narrow.

Might see you up there - haved fun.

i got pulled or you could say i pulled over for the old bill few months ago, i had a small plate on but he was ok,he just ran check on me had a chat & off we go.mate of mine got pulled other wk & they gave him a fine for small plate & fine for being on a half finished gravel track,it dosent give me much incentive to hang around next time as it looks like they will do you for any minor thing

Same here, I think it depends on the day if the copper is OK or an as$h£le. Up to now I've had 3 chats re Husaberg, with a radio check of insurance etc, and a warning on my plate, they were reasonable each time & seemed more interested in having a good look over & a chat about the bike.

On my Kwakka however (North Wales), the guy was a right prat, I was given a fine of £80 & 3 points following use of a pit gauge to measure my tread depth & he measured something like 0.6mm worst-case, when the legal limit is 1.00mm I think.... :x
