Despite our occasional disagreements, the comaradre and helpfulness of the members of this site is far above any other. I have posted a couple of problems, and each time received accurate help and info very quickly. This last time though, was even better. Shortly after posting my problem, I received a call from mkall32, and he offered to not only come over first thing (at 7 am) in the morning to help me, but he brought spare parts! He diagnosed the problem within a short amount of time. We installed his spare parts, and vroom; engine runs. He also gave me a few pointers to prevent future problems. Now instead of waiting weeks for a new stator, I get to ride and enjoy my 'berg.

Thank you json for making this possible.

And thank you Ken for your generosity and kindness.

BTW, he also said he would take a few pictures and post them to show my radiator overflow bottle. Next week he and I will be riding together and he'll get to try the APS mods by Dick's suspension on my forks and shock.

RE: shiney happy people :)

Hey, that's great Brian! Does that mean that you get to fit your other scheduled rides in?

Glad you are on the road again :)

thanks,
json

Yeah, who would have thought or guessed that a Husaberg stator would fail? Huh? 8O

But seriously, I was lulled in a false feeling of security because we ride in the desert and the first few times I removed the stator after riding and washing, there wasn't a single drop of moisture in there. So I stopped checking. Then we had some rain and I had a few rides that required stream crossings, the streams were about 30 inches (80cm) deep. That is probably when the moisture got in the stator. Expensive lesson.

wet stator

Hi Splat,I am not so sure going in water a few times and not drying the stator was the main cause in its failure. My 1999 fe400e just failed this fall and in this part of the world riding in wet conditions is normal.I do think that water running down the stator wire and finding its way into the stator caused my failure, but mine got wet almost every ride for five years and was never dried afterwards,as I knew nothing about checking for wetness until I read it on this site. It is just as likely that they fail from a combination of moisture, heat, vibration and time! ....nsman
