Hello All
Its been awhile. I had not ridden the Husabergs since my last trip to BAJA last November. I recently returned from another trip south of the border. It was mainly a surf trip, but of course I took a BERG cause I drove down this time.
Did a 352 mile solo ride one day. Explored a lot of the Vizcaino Penninsula which I had not been too. 90% dirt, and was an amazing day of riding and sightseeing.
Also was talked into doing the 2nd annual San Ignacio 200 race by some locals I met surfing, who also rode. The race was 200 km, 121 miles I think. I surfed Sat morning, loaded up and drove the hour and a half to San Ignacio, pre ran the course, and then signed up for the race. The lame thing was that they didn't give us our starting positions until 10:30 that night. All us racers were just hanging around waiting, and wanting to get some sleep while the entire town partied, actually about 3 times the town. Turned out I drew the second starting position out of the whole field.
Sleeping was a bit of a challenge, as the band played til the wee hours of the morning and I could hear them from our camp a half mile away.
The race was ridicuously fast. Lots of wide open. There also was probably 10-15 miles of a sh@t ton of rocks. They started us 1 minute apart. The guy that started before me was this heavy set middle aged Mexican, who I later learned was PRO. He wheelied from the false start in the town square around corners and outa sight. I also learned that he looped his bike right before the finish. I caught him in the rocks, but he pulled away in the open twisties, he new the terrain very well.
Long story short, I rode stupidly fast. I think my time was 2:10 and something for the 117 miles after the false start. I ended up crashing in the last couple of miles, which I dont even remeber at all, kinda scary. I guess A guy passed me cause I ended up 3rd. I won a plaque and 800 pesos. The 800 pesos paid for the 500 peso entry fee and my 200 peso pain meds for my separated ribs, OUCH, and a 100 peso tee shirt.
I have decided that I have what I call the STUPID GENE, I get a little competitive in a race environment. Not worth it.
Anyway, I hope everyone is great.
