Hello All
Its been awhile. I had not ridden the Husabergs since my last trip to BAJA last November. I recently returned from another trip south of the border. It was mainly a surf trip, but of course I took a BERG cause I drove down this time.
Did a 352 mile solo ride one day. Explored a lot of the Vizcaino Penninsula which I had not been too. 90% dirt, and was an amazing day of riding and sightseeing.
Also was talked into doing the 2nd annual San Ignacio 200 race by some locals I met surfing, who also rode. The race was 200 km, 121 miles I think. I surfed Sat morning, loaded up and drove the hour and a half to San Ignacio, pre ran the course, and then signed up for the race. The lame thing was that they didn't give us our starting positions until 10:30 that night. All us racers were just hanging around waiting, and wanting to get some sleep while the entire town partied, actually about 3 times the town. Turned out I drew the second starting position out of the whole field.
Sleeping was a bit of a challenge, as the band played til the wee hours of the morning and I could hear them from our camp a half mile away.
The race was ridicuously fast. Lots of wide open. There also was probably 10-15 miles of a sh@t ton of rocks. They started us 1 minute apart. The guy that started before me was this heavy set middle aged Mexican, who I later learned was PRO. He wheelied from the false start in the town square around corners and outa sight. I also learned that he looped his bike right before the finish. I caught him in the rocks, but he pulled away in the open twisties, he new the terrain very well.
Long story short, I rode stupidly fast. I think my time was 2:10 and something for the 117 miles after the false start. I ended up crashing in the last couple of miles, which I dont even remeber at all, kinda scary. I guess A guy passed me cause I ended up 3rd. I won a plaque and 800 pesos. The 800 pesos paid for the 500 peso entry fee and my 200 peso pain meds for my separated ribs, OUCH, and a 100 peso tee shirt.
I have decided that I have what I call the STUPID GENE, I get a little competitive in a race environment. Not worth it.
Anyway, I hope everyone is great.

Oh yeah, the Husaberg, my 650, is fast south of the border. Top speed in the race was 103mph. However I did pull 111mph on dirt coming back from town 1 evening. This is for sure part of the STUPID GENE. And I finally had to do my first valve adjustment at 4937 miles 220+hours Only the intakes were tight.

RIDE ON

Heya RON
Yeah, life is great, though my ribs are still a little sore. Planning on hanging in and around CB for most of the month of September with some Green River and Moab mixed in. I think I am heading to New Zealand for most of the winter, late NOV-Marchish. I hope you are awesome.

Great write-up Colby.

Sounds like some serious fun was had putting the 650 through the paces. Sorry about your injury and glad it wasn't worse. The sore ribs can put quite the damper on your laughter. 352 miles in a one day leisure ride? You rock dude...

You've been south of the border enough to merit a new nickname;
How's Colbeaner? :lol:

later,

Hangin' the helmet in Seattle. I am about done with a big remodel and on to the next one. Gotta save some more cash so I can go and spend it.
