What style tappet screws are you using? Original radius half ball with lash cap or later model swivel foot? Such is critical.

How right you were Dale! Cant believe this saga is still ongoing!!
As i said DCR couldnt pick the bike up this week to do the remedial work, so i said they could send me new tappet screws and i'd fit them myself as i needed the bike this week. New screws turned up today... brilliant! took the old ones out and they are different, hard tips as opposed to the ones with swivels on they have sent me, phoned DCR and asked whether they'd fit, yes was the reply. went ahead and installed them.... nowhere near! the tappet screws are in solid contact with the valves all the way through the cycle. Phoned DCR back, apparently the swivel ones are the only ones they can get... someone PLEASE give me some ideas!

Inspect your valve tips. Are "Lash Caps" installed?
If so use Honda CX 500 / XR 100 tappet screws. :D

Husaberg may not think they need me, however, it appears early Berg owners do.

As I have warned, pre 2001 owners beware as you are likely to be cast aside.

Truth be told if you have anything older than an 04 you will likely be treated different as the objective is to sale you a new bike.

I have come across this today Dale, trying to sort this problem it was mentioned a few times that 'we need to get you on a new bike' as you'll keep having problems with your old one.... i keep having problems because no-one at the dealers seems to know or care anything about them, i dont think the equation has clicked into place yet... if i dont feel i have had good service from the husaberg dealer... why would i buy a new one????
On the subject of my problem, i dont know what a lash cap looks like  . I can see a big washer above the spring with something like a split collar with what looks like the end of the valve sticking through it.

A "Lash Cap" is a little hat of hard steel which sits atop the valve stem.
Such is separate from the valve stem.

If you have nothing except valve stem said lash caps have been removed.

If such is indeed the case the stem tips are likely concave as they are not hard enough on their own to resist plain tappet screw loads.

Hope this helps.

Sincerely,
Dale

Unfortunately Europe is not the only place where such a scenario is played out daily.

Doesnt look like there are any caps on there, they do look flat however.
Looks like i'll have to wait weeks again to see if any old style tappet screws can be sourced. Tees me off a bit as i've only ridden my bike for 15 minutes in the last 4 months... nearly all due to parts problems.

The XR 100 and CX 500 tappet screws are a direct "early" OEM Husaberg
replacement.

You may have a XXXXXXX.

A few did exist with hard tip valves and standard screws.

I know we've been communicating through pm on this problem, just wanted to say something in public about how grateful i am for your help, some may not know how much you do to help people in the background. As you say people seem to know a lot about new bergs but the technical knowledge about the old ones is dying out, the dealers know nothing about them and due to the fact that the husaberg factory apparently dont even know which parts fit the older bikes, neither do they! You are the only person i can get sensible (true) facts and figures from so YES... the husaberg factory DO need you!
Cheers
Mark

PS
On the point of selling new bikes, a dealer recently offered to take my old berg in part ex on a new bike... to put it in his museum alongside joels smets bikes! the old girl could be famous! :D
