The best one was the 1999 fe400. It was reasonably light but not the lightest but it had the new ignition and round slide dellorto. The low slung tank that centred weight low. No heavy e start stuff and the 400 did not need it. My favourite because the timing was changed on the big end speed not silly TPS throttle opening which does not always relate to revs. The big thing was....open throttle and front wheel comes up.

Second favourite 2008 450. Ktm quality and outlasts Honda xr 400. No silly main bearing strain......okay heavy and rammed in kein carb and steel not aluminium bits in the motor but who really wants to live with a works bike maintenance.

I did leave out the Joel Smets replicas because although I could ride and was fastest on standard 600s....I could not ride the replicas....they reared up and tried to flip when throttle opened....

That my two bibs worth!

My favourite is the FE501e 2004. the later reliable engine, a beautiful package and a quality road and dirtbike. failings; they did 2-3 mods at the end of the year for the 2005 bikes (after the 501 was dropped for the first time since manufactur started in 1989) but not enough to shout 'poor bike'.

I'd also put forwards the 2000s over the 1999s. Better chassis although you sat 'in' the 1999s and 'on' the 2000s.

The 2006 to 2008. 450, 550 and 650 are the best endure bikes the world has ever seen.
Hell I still have got my 2008 450 and I have never owed a dirt bike past 2 years old from 1980 on, that 08 450 is the best thing for serious enduro work and she is still going fine now I had the mains rebuilt by the best Husaberg man in Australia Orangeberg knew what was the correct thing to do with such bikes.
I bought my 450 on 7/2009 as it was the last one left, I would of bought a 650 like a mate had with his 2007 but the 450 was fine I could not complain as it went well regardless.
The only real advantage of the 550 and 650 is when I am in 5th and 6th gear that they will pull away.
What really has blowen me away is the times that I thought I was going to come off for sure real bad and the bike just saved me. it's magic !

A mate bought a 300 Husaberg 2 stroke, just another bike with nothing to talk about but in the soft sand the steering was the worst bucket of **** to ride.

You never second guess the 08 Berg what it's going to do, it will just take it in it's stride and it loves to be ridden quickly and I am like having to be stopping waiting for other c-nt's to catch up, f I hate that. I had one bloke I had to follow as he knew that area but had a Suzuki DR-Z 400 and I tried to ride at his slow pace and it wore me out as it was hammering my 50yo body out that I had to just pass him and stop if their was a turn off and wait for him.

If you ride quick it's easy on your body and you just go with the flow taking it easy no stress at all, something my pop up but you just deal with it and keep mosey on.
On real hot days you keep moving don't stop but if you have to stop get moving again as fast as you can or you end up feel roo ted.

Interesting to read who likes what. I've only ridden my 06 450 and have never ridden anything that competes with it, let alone another Husaberg. So my favorite is the one I have.

I was riding a few bikes and I am leaning towards 2008 Fe 650. 2008 Fe 450 is fantastic in tight turns having low gearing. 2008 Fe 550 is just sublime to ride, does everything just right, but I wouldn't have difficulty riding same bike with more torque. So I vote for the Fe 650 of 2008 vintage. Lifting front wheel over a puddle or a roots with your throttle effortlessly is truly beautiful thing.

So at the end of the day, there just isnt one best Husaberg. Everyone has different wants and needs, so this will determine whats best for them. Ive never owned a pre bent Berg so prob not really qualified to answer but even though the FE570 is more so KTM than previous Husabergs, it gets my vote. The robust longevity is important for my needs. I have ridden the 2008 650 and liked it very much but i wouldnt go so far as to say it was better than my 570 or 610. The owner did say he struggled with the ergonomics.

The power of the 650, what endure bike comes close to that sort of power and weight.
The Honda CR500 is a **** cart when compared to the 650 berg, when a mate got rid of his CR500 and always being a devout Honda man went and bought his 07 berg he was getting about bagging the CR500 saying what a ill handling heavy bucket of **** that it was, sure it went fast and could scare you rearing up like they do, but you can not enjoy the bike really or totally like the 650 gives you back all the time and the CR is some what like a bull to ride, yes that's fun but the 650 can blow a CR500 into the weeds anywhere with ease, it does not try to bight you, you just hammer it and if you f up it's your fault not the bikes.

The first time that I road the 650 berg I was flat out a 10 10ths I came around a sweeping bend out in the sticks and a f ing big tree was across the track lying 3ft high and I thought fu-k ! the forks are history and I am going to become super man sailing through the air. but she stoped in time :) to my surprise, back wheel in the air and all mind.
So I got back and old mate was in a rush and took off, hey I thought that tree ? when he got back he claimed that I deliberately did not warn him about that and just the other day he brought that up still insisting the same.

But anyroad he was having a hard time convincing anyone that the 650 killed any CR 500 any day. they thought that he was pissing into the wind.
They all think that the 650 Berg is like a Honda XR 600 ect type of heavy **** tank.
But the 650 Berg is just like a 450 weight and size if not the lightest of all 450 ever.

Yes. Those 650s are easy to ride and perhaps easier than the 450. Tyres and chains need replacing a bit more though.

My mate's 650 busted all but 3 teeth on the original front sprocket, I spotted it before we riding and I gave him a higher tooth one that I got as an extra with mine, so that we could go ride, but the next time I seen him I asked where is my sprocket he said that it was rubbish and had just tossed it in the bin, yes but it was my f ing sprocket for f sake, just because he got the ***** ridging with it does not make it f ing worthless.
I said if the bastard is eating front sprockets you may be better off with another tooth sprocket on the front and go more teeth on the rear, to save the bloody teeth on the front.

The front sprocket was not worn out but just busted the teeth off. so you have get a better quality sprocket or go more teeth to give such more strength don't you.

It's easy to work out the gearing, if you liked the std ratio I could work it out for him what teeth sprockets he needed to do.

He did bust some more off the next sprocket but only 3 I think when I found it before a ride and gave him my original worn front sprocket to get by.
F ing hopeless with maintains that c-nt.

I went 2 teeth more from std on the rear of my 450 as I was 120KG it worked out spot on for me. one who is 80KG the stock gearing may be fine.

But old mate always kept the stock gearing on the 650.

I am on my 3rd chain and sprockets now.

I met a Tech writer for a bike magazine that had a late 90's Berg. He loved it and was a die hard Berg man. I always wanted a Berg, but I bought KTM's. Then for my 50th birthday I bought myself an '07 FE650. Wish I had bought one earlier. Everything that is said about them is true. I was surprised when I rode out of situations that the KTM would of thrown me off. The one and only time I ever crashed my Berg was when a suspension tuner stuffed up the rebound in one fork leg and put me in hospital.

I rode a 70 degree 450 and it was an excellent bike, but I much prefer the earlier models.

Whats better than a 570? A 570 taken out to 610, ported head, 450 airbox, remap and free breathing airbox!

Best Bergs

Hi, I am a dyed in the wool old fashioned 2t man but after buying a bargain FE570 09 could not get over how great the bike is ...I have now got a gaggle of older Bergs and a set of 03 models 400 501 & 650 all FE enduro bikes ....working my way through the jobs they all need to run again ...cannot wait to have them all lined up to test them out back to back!.

Fe570

Never rode any of the earlier Bergs but the 570 is my favorite bike to date. Yes it's heavy if you drop it but feels more nimble than you would expect on singletrack and has enough torque to easily pull 70 mph with reasonable gearing on the road without feeling like it's going to explode. With Euro map and a better exhaust it works great everywhere in the revs and gives the linear EFI power that is so easy.

Yes I agree because reliable... I make the point that the earlier bergs were much lighter though........but what if you go right back and go to the husqvarna museum in husqvarna town just over the river and look at all those prototype titanium frames and twin cylinder motors that I think were banned by the FIM? The first Berg motor was a trimmed down husky 4 stroke motor......most people used the husky workshop manual before Berg put one out.....no weep hole problem....no finding nuetral problem....and still lots of parts.....my Berg pick if I was to fill the shed...1993 350/501, 1999 400/501/600......2008 450 (no bearing problem like big bores)?.....

My 2011 FE390 kicks ***, love the bike, won the hare scramble series on this bike against many new bikes and the big orange
