Suspension Tuner Recomendation

Hi All,

What's the consensus on the best suspension tuner for the new Bergs? I just bought a 2010 FE450 and it needs some work. I ride desert (Lucerne, Ocotillo Wells, Johnson Valley, etc...) and am looking for the tuner that has it down. I want a plush go-fast bike. I live in Corona, CA if that makes a difference.

I've heard good things about Dick's Racing but only as it relates to KTM. I know the parts are the same but the bike geometry is going to be different. I've read online that the PDS system is great but, again, only as it relates to KTM.

First hand experience would be awesome.

You live right next to Factory Connection

Are they any good with the Husaberg FE's though? I know that Husaberg gave out certificates for free suspension work at Factory Connection with the FX model but that is a completely different fork.

WP = WP

They arguably do more suspension work than just about anyone in the country WP, KYB, Showa, Marzocchi or otherwise.

Shipping is a significant cost. Javier @ Trail Tricks in Frazier Park does a bunch of WP work, both KTM and Berg. I like his theories personally and learned from speaking with him 3-4 times on the phone.

They know suspension and do Mike Lafferty's. I use Genuine Dirt Racer in NC. They are a Berg dealer and also a WP dealer and techs. Love how they did my FX. Just sent the shock back in for the winter service. They do most of the team Berg guys stuff in the US except Lafferty who uses Factory Connection.

Shipping my suspension off to Javier at Trail Tricks on Friday. He's going to set me up with the "magic carpet ride". I'll report back as soon as I have tried it out.

By the way, Javier is a really nice guy. He took the time to explain all that he would be doing (which is quite a lot!). I just wish it wasn't so expensive! HA!

I have road two 570's that Javier did. Love them. Both were plush on the small stuff and much better in the big hits. Funny thing is they were both set up for guys much heavier than me(wonder how good it would be set-up for my weight). The second one I road back to back with my bike on the same trail. When I came back down the trail on my bike and hit the same rock on the top of a whoop I almost endoed. I hit the rock on purpose with both bikes as a test. Also road an Aprilia 550 he re-valved. Couldn't believe you could go that fast through whoops with that big v-twin. I had another 550 there to compare to(which was re-valved by a different tuner).

I have used Dicks for my last two Husabergs. He really knows Husaberg and real improves them.

Just got back from a trip out to the desert to try out the new suspension from Javier at Trail Tricks. Such an improvement! No more diving in the sand, blowing through the stroke and bottoming out, or bucking. This bike is now super plush and has an amazing ability to resist bottoming. The bike now makes it easy to go fast. As a matter of fact, the harder you charge the better the suspension works.

I let several others try it out and they were amazed at the result.

I highly recommend Javier to anyone looking for a great setup. He spent the time to explain what he was going to do. I could tell he has a real passion for this stuff. He was also willing to do a quick turnaround on the shipping when asked.

And the price for the "magic carpet ride"? That's only if you don't mind saying. I'm due for service myself and trying to get a ballpark idea of the cost of service vs. revalve.

anybody done the telescopic needle mod for the shock that Race Tech and MX-Tech swear by?

There the only two companies I've seen that go with this setup, after reading the Race-Tech suspension Bible, the logic makes sense. I haven't heard of anyone that's actually ridden a bike with it though.

How about the Dick's racing APS fork service:

Can anyone speak from experience if this really does give a lot more adjust-ability to the OC fork? Once again, they make it sounds nice, I would like to hear some reviews before laying out the $$$ though. Thanks for any help. 8O

i have a terry hays needle (RT style) in my bike, can't say the price justification is there

That's good info on the needle. Seems like if such a small part really made such a difference WP/KTM would have incorporated it already in follow-on designs. If anyone else out there has other info or experiences, please speak up! At the moment, I'm leaning towards Dick's Racing or Factory connection for my revlalve. BTW, I ride rooty, rock two-track and single track in East Tennessee (Appalachia).

I'm having DaleEO do mine right now. I'll report my findings once I get it back. I have heard others on this board say he's done a great job with their Bergs...mine is the 201 FE 570S with the WP CC Forks...I can't wait to get it all built back up and ride!!

DaleEO did my suspension a few months ago. Over Labor Day weekend I finally got to do some very technical single track riding. Wow! What a difference.

On bumpy dirt roads the bike is very plush and comfortable. On rocky trails, the suspension just eats it up. I could not believe how much better the bike handled very rocky conditions. I was amazed at the size of boulders I could ride over with minimal disturbance to my control.

I have not yet ridden deep whoops or deep sand, but so far in every other type of terrain the suspension has been incredible.

Yes, after reading the reviews of Dale E O's work I have added him to the short list. I'd still like to hear any reviews of the "gadgets" like telescopic needles or APS mods. Also contemplating picking up a set of used CC forks and putting on there. I've got that on my '08 200XC and really like like them for agressive riding.
