Stock exhaust can modification

Just wanted to mention I removed all the smog stuff and then started modifing the stock can on my FE570, I removed several small parts from the guts of the can and tried the results after each removing each piece.
To save all the details thta didn't do much, I will tell you when my bike really came to life.

I hacksawed off the small tube as close to the tail cap as possible, and took off the screen, I then took a chisel and broke th 4 tack welds from the rear of the can to break the sprial turbine blade baffle loose from the inside of the inner exhaust tube.
Then I took a piece of 1 1/4" steel pipe I had in my shop slipped it throught the can from the front and banged it on the floor vertically (like driving a fence post in the ground) and knock out the turbine blade baffle completely then I buttoned everything up...man! it's a different bike, starts easier, idles better, a ton more smooth power, it just let the bike breathe. It's a little louder but if you want to quiet it down just put the rear screen back on and it will drop the exhaust note quite a bit.
Next I plan to change the front sprocket to gear it down a little. thanks to everyone that posted info here on removing all thew smog junk that really helped also.
tumbleweed.

I did a lot of experimentation too, and also a lot of reading. I didn't find anybody who went as far as to knock out the tubine baffle. The most that othrs had done was to hacksaw the tailpipe so that the inner pipe was removed, leaving the larger diameter outer pipe was all that was left. Your results are very interesting. I think that you have defeated what modest spark arrester capability your factory muffler had in its stock configuration. Mind where you ride. A forest ranger who knows what he's looking at might ticket you.

After what I now consider excessive experimentation my final solution was to buy an FMF Factory 4.1 can. It's an exceptional improvement. I run it with the FMF spark arrester. The the bike sounds and performs wonderfully, and I'm ticket-proof.

FMF seems to be the way to go. But what is all the extra de-smogging you guys talk of? I've just put 10hrs on mine and starting to get a good feel for it, so de-restricting it would be nice.

Ruger I haven't mounted my 4.1 yet, waiting my my ceramic coated mega pipe to get back wednesday. are you using the combined quiet/sa insert or are you using just a SA insert? A lot of the weight savings are lost as soon as the SA/quiet insert is installed.

I'm using the reduced noise insert with the Fire Service approved spark arrester screen on my FMF 4.1. I tried it with the standard insert and thought the bike was jail bait that way. I like the way it sounds much better with the reduced noise insert anyway. I'm not very concered about weight - I don't have any go-fast pretentions and would never notice the very slight difference in weight in a million years.

Does anyone know if the husaberg exhausts are the same for 11/12 models? Fmf only list up to 2011 model Bergs. I'd assume they are the same, but don't want to make this assumption when shipping to Australia.

I have noted that FMF is slow to update their site, but that the verious venders like Bike Bandit have more current application information.

It tended to pop just a little with the original factory map and the FMF 4.1. I had it at the dealer for another reason, and they did the put the "performance" map on it. The popping disappeared. They told me that it had been running lean with the new, lower-backpressure muffler.

I asked my dealer about the "performance" map and was told that the 2011 "street legal" FE 570's had a "locked" ECU that could not be re-programmed. Anybody else experience this?

Mine is a 2001 FE570S with a mirrors, turn signals and a license plate. It's as street legal as can be, and they even SUGGESTED that the performance map be installed.

Robhrzic1488, you've been lied to.
