(Sperstad,
It is common for the float valve to get stuck in a (Dellorto Carb) which doesn't allow fuel to the float bowl. )
This happened to me on Friday this week and I think many other times before when I was not sure what really caused the hard start up after bike had been sitting.
I broke my left Achilles in may and I have not been on my 99 FE 501 or started it since then.
Yesterday was my first ride for over 4 months and I did not even try to start the bike since I had to replace the boot between air box and carb. Well since I was in there, I decided to drop the float bowl, it was bone dry. I turned on the gas-nothing, tapped on the side, shook it around etc- still no gas. I removed the banjo coupling for the inlet and the filter was clean so no problem there. When I tried blowing through this I realized that it was completely plugged up and now I discovered that the float valve was suspended inthe air stuck in a shut position. Once I took care of this, gave the bike a bit of choke, it started right up on the e-start.
If I think back, I'm sure this has been happening many times after bike been sitting and I have in the past gotten it un-stuck by accident w/o knowing what I really did to fix it.
This time, I ran the carb dry on gas to hopefully have the float valve drop down so it does not stick against the valve seat.
I rode Hungry Valley with my son yesterday and he was switching between his KX 85 and his klx 110 pit bike and this summer he has been practicing at the track since I could not ride-Wow, what a difference the track does when they can hone on their skills. He was right on my back tire all day long. It was really great to see his improvement.
Does anyone know if a new valve cures the problem?
Have a great Sunday,
Hakan
