Start problems, Husaberg 600 -00

This summer there was a while that I didn`t use my Husaberg, earlyer this seson the bike went just fine without any problems. But when I was going to go for a spinn in august, the bike didn`t start. The bike had been standing for like a month.

I checked the plugg, and it gave sparks when I tested it. Not so big sparks, but stil sparks (blue of color). So I can`t understand waht`s wrong with the bike. Can anyone give me some basic advices on how to find the failure?

I always begin by figuring the three basic elements needed: spark, compression, and fuel. You have spark. On a 600, you will know you have compression. I would then look to fuel. A quick look inside the float bowl will tell you if jets have plugged up, or sediment/water accumulated. Old fuel is often a problem. It's bad ju-ju to let a Berg sit too long without a ride! Good luck with it!

sperstad,
what color was the ceramic insulator inside the plug? if anything close to black, change the plug. (change it anyway)

Sperstad,
It is common for the float valve to get stuck in a (Dellorto Carb) which doesn't allow fuel to the float bowl.

A quick way to check that the carb is getting fuel;
• Turn on fuel at petcock
• Lean bike over on it's side
• You should have fuel dripping out of the overflow tubes from the float bowl

If you are not getting fuel, you can tap on the float bowl which may allow the float valve to drop down and let fuel into the bowl.

Hope this makes sense.

This happened to me on Friday this week and I think many other times before when I was not sure what really caused the hard start up after bike had been sitting.

I broke my left Achilles in may and I have not been on my 99 FE 501 or started it since then.

Yesterday was my first ride for over 4 months and I did not even try to start the bike since I had to replace the boot between air box and carb. Well since I was in there, I decided to drop the float bowl, it was bone dry. I turned on the gas-nothing, tapped on the side, shook it around etc- still no gas. I removed the banjo coupling for the inlet and the filter was clean so no problem there. When I tried blowing through this I realized that it was completely plugged up and now I discovered that the float valve was suspended inthe air stuck in a shut position. Once I took care of this, gave the bike a bit of choke, it started right up on the e-start.

If I think back, I'm sure this has been happening many times after bike been sitting and I have in the past gotten it un-stuck by accident w/o knowing what I really did to fix it.

This time, I ran the carb dry on gas to hopefully have the float valve drop down so it does not stick against the valve seat.

I rode Hungry Valley with my son yesterday and he was switching between his KX 85 and his klx 110 pit bike and this summer he has been practicing at the track since I could not ride-Wow, what a difference the track does when they can hone on their skills. He was right on my back tire all day long. It was really great to see his improvement.

Does anyone know if a new valve cures the problem?

Have a great Sunday,

Hakan

Hi Sperstad.
I would clean the carb and check the intake-rubber. The one between the carb and head.
Just make sure you clean it properly, spray break cleaner in all small holes from the inside out. I´ts very important you spray in the right direction (from the float to throttle) otherwise you can make it worse. It has to come cleaner from all the holes. Loosen the venturi and you will understand what i mean. Imagine you are a small piece of dirt and want to enter all the small holes of your carb... Now spray in the opposite direction.

And a tip to make your Dell'orto nedlejet live a bit longer, just add a bottle cap of two stroke oil in each tank. Todays gas stinks.
Just to make it clear i do´nt think you are a small piece of dirt. I hope this helps and you are really confused now.

Full speed ahead, nobody remembers a chicken.

Hello!
I haven`t had time to look at the problem before today. So today I removed the carb and cleaned it well, and after i mounted it I just had to do ONE kick and the engine was running! Thanks allot guys for your helpful information!
