 most 05"s should have the torquelimiter nut checked for there breakaway value, I just repaired one today that broke freewheel gear, nicked cluth hub, had to replace cause breakaway torque was 50 foot pounds, should be between 7 to 15, talk to your dealer to see if you have an affected unit, warranty will cover it. you can pm me & i will tell you if it should be looked at. thanks :D

Thanks for checking to see if my bike was on the list Bossman. It wasn't so the total number of units affected must not be too large.

Hi nsman:
The sticker underneath the headlamp has a date of 2004-10-02, Oct. 02, 2004 I presume. Is this the production date or is it somewhere else?

Exact the same thing happened to my cousins FE450 -04.My FE550-04 get away with just the inner part of the freewheel and the torquelimiter.we both get new parts on guarantee. :D

Husabutt,
That should be the manufacture date.As all the bergs in my inventory are in the effected number range, I am just trying to determine if there is a correlation between manufacture date and effected units. The number of machines effected is in fact quite large, are you sure your number is not on the list.Thanks....nsman

BOSS checked my VIN # and it was not on the list. If you would like I could PM you with the VIN #.

I did not equate bossman to boss,I am sure if he checked it and says it is not there, it is not there..nsman

torquelimiter

:D hey, nsman thanks,ya i was suprised husabutts was not listed. As the list looks large.

The torquelimiter spec is only an issue on certain 05 models,as yours is a 04 550 you should have no worries.I do recall that there is a couple of nuts under the clutch cover that should be checked whenever the cover is off.Your dealer has all the info, give them a call .
