So who has an FCR carb?

Dale/Woolyberger,
Is this the standard bare bones model, or does it have the hot start? Also, what is the price? If you don't want to advertise publically, PM me.

My engine is in pretty good shape, I'm just going to put in new rocker rollers and cam sprockets/chain and see if it lasts the rest of the season(motard racing). In the fall I plan on tearing it down for a full rebuild with a couple Dale mods(cam and counter balancer). A carb may be in order also if the Dellorto is a pain. ...hopefully the SEM ignition will last, the previous owner let it get really rusty.

...Any update on your replacement ignition Dale?

Hi Powerfiend,
The specifications I listed are for the original FCR 41.
As you mention a couple of cool options are indeed now avaialble. However, the basic carburetor design has not been changed.

Options:
Cold start fuel enrichemnt circuit
Hot start calibrated air bleed
TPS provisions

Regards,
Dale

The fcr I got from Sudco has a choke but doesnt have the hot start . I think a guy should get the hot start if possible. I believe mine was about $525 US dollars for everything.

WOOLEY

2 years on mine wooley and for a start they don't stall (if you follow me!). secondly they fire up real easy on the button when warm.

the jetting needs to be lean to re-start the bikes and that seems how i've got mine running. so based on the fact that they start easy i would say "NO, save yer money".

FCR more responsive than the dellorto? everyone who has so much as touched the throttle on my dellorto equipped fe400 (much lees those who have ridden it) are ASTOUNDED at the throttle response! the fcr equipped yz450f i rode was a lazy, fat pig compared to my berg! What gives? the response of my berg COULDNT be any quicker! I mean it is there RIGHT NOW! And my lack-of-rear-tire-life is proof!!! hell, my YZ490 and xr650r are easier on rear tires than my 400 berg! i am new to berg ownership, so I am still in the learning phase, I admit that. But the dellorto carb seems incredible to me, just the way it is! My bike has the Big gun exhuast, I am sure this contributes. But to imagine the bike being more responsive, or getting better mileage is hard to do.

i think the dell orto is excellent off a closed throttle with the wheel being too lively. i can only speak for myself here but i would say that it's the low end to midrange that is excellent on the FCR.

My thoughts axactly. But until you actually try something different, you will never know which is better. It seems the guys that have successfully converted to the FCR all agree the FCR is superior. Those of us that haven't even tried the FCR sit on the sidelines and wonder 'Can it be? Can the berg be even better?' I believe it is a matter of cost vs. benefit. There seems to be a benefit to converting, but is the benefit worth $550? Only your own wallet can answer that question.

I'm happy with my Dellorto equipped engine.
I will wait until berger gets his FCR so I can try his. :p

i hate quotes but this was said right at the beginning folks.

one thing to remember is that although you might get a used WR carb etc you will need the following which all add to the price;

yamaha fuel pipe (and clips ) i don't use clips at all.
a 2 into 1 union on the carb (i have a spare one for sale)
another inlet rubber so that you're happy to cut it up/about
KTM 400/450 throttle cables
KTM 400/450 throttle housing
fresh grips
many new jets and needles through both keihin dealer (sudco/allins) or through yamaha
block off the TPS
new belmouth spigot to suit the larger inlet 'sock' of the husey than the yam

all this adds up.

worth it? for a better bike but probably financially-no.

Taffy,

Are you saying that I am not allowed to agree with someone? 8O

i'm saying that we have now come full circle to where we came in!

So now we can all sing
'I love you, you love me......'

did a lot of testing today on a fairly clear and bright summers day.

i now have the FC/FX tailpipew and the FC/FX camshaft fitted-the '53'.

i don't think the cam made any difference to the MJ test. so i feel that there is NO JETTING change going to the FC pipe.

i nwas on 162 before i fitted it, fitted it and noticed no difference in noise and infact the engine was more woolly so IMHO a 162MJ is fine.

with the new set up i;
MJ down to 162 from 168
dropped the EKQ to clip 3 from 4.
tried the PJ on 45 (from 40) n felt it was quite good at 1/4 throttle but killed the snap from zero. tried the 38PJ and it was a lot fitter.

used an FMN needle again and it was fantastic at the top.

now have some ideas

regards

Taffy
