Should I buy a Husa FS650e?

Hi! I'm new here ...

I was wundering if a FS650e would be a good choice: I'd use it daily to drive to work, less then 5km, but on the other hand once in a while we take off for a 800km weekend... Can I do that with the Husa? what about the reliabiliy of the 2004 FS650e?

I can buy a nice 2004 FS650e with 8000km, it has a slipperclutch and dubble exhaust, and 2008 plastic, what would be a correct price? If well maintained?

Tnx!! and kind regards,

Keis

Hello and welcome to the site. I wouldn't use a berg for my daily commute or a 800km weekend, it would be a pain in the ***, literally. My supermoto is great fun for an hour or two blast but any distance is out of the question really, you need to refill every hour plus you need to change the oil every 5 hours. Reliability can be good but these bikes take a lot of care and up keep in my experience, they are basically race bikes with lights etc.

The bike your looking at sounds great but I don't think it would be the best choice for your intended purpose.

ok, tnx for the quick reply.

I'm thinking of buying a KTM 950 Supermoto for the 800k weekends, and the Husa for daily fun.
What would be a fair price for the Husa? it has 8000km, Sutter slipperclutch, double EP exhausts, two color Behr wheels, Beringer breaks, trapped seat, led backlight and the 2008 plastics...

tnx again

In the UK i suppose it would be worth between £1500 and £2000.

it needs to be well maintained if you are going to coimmute daily on it, and it doesn't want to be thrashed either.

i suggest that another more mundaine bike would be better. at least have back-up transport ready!"

Taffy

Interestingly enough i have a KTM950sm and a FS650e, both cracking bikes for what they are intended for. i use my BMW450 and KTM250 2t for my enduro racing though.

good to see you're still about sammo! get that husaberg out! it's no good in the shed!

regards

Taffy

Is this the bike you are looking at? Used to be owned by a guy from http://www.supermotard.be named "old race rat', maybe send him an email to ask about the bike.

As for the price, I just bought a 2008 650 with 4000km's (80h) for 6000 euro's. So definately less than that, I would think something round 4500 euro's.

If it is the bike I am talking about, then the wheels, are powdercoated stock wheels wich shouldn't add that much to the price.

that's the bike! I'll ask Race Rat, tnx for the info!

about commuting, it's not that I will see thsi bike as a daily driver, more like an extra "transport" ;-)

So did you buy it and become one of the cool kids ?

no, we didn't agree on the price. I got some more background info (tnx for the tip BelgiqueBastard!) and the Husa seems to have 13000km in stead of 8000 ... that's a lot for a SM ...

anyway, if anyone has a good bike for a good price ...

Id use the bike on a 800km weekend provided I could get gas when needed.

I gues it can be done if you have the balls ...

Heck. I just bought my FE 650 out in Boise a few weeks ago and did 2600 miles taking a week to get back to Chicago. I was delayed by needing new tires in Desmoines. My D606 were shot and slippery the night before as I hightailed it to Suoux City, SD.

I did a few hundred miles off road getting started 100 miles into Stanley.

The next day I followed 75 with the Salmon River running on one side of me then on the other up to a little dot on the map called Gibbonsville. I took a right there and took the road through town that turned into a dirt road. It went up the mountain and down, 45 minutes or so each way. This was a dirt version of the Dragon down at Deal's Gap. Pure heaven. The road went across range land with cows and horses roaming across the road.

This continued when I took a dirt road out of Dillon, MT, that took me just out side Yellowstone. Incredible. Highly recommended.

Sadly 212, the north east exit out of Yellowstone was closed.

I'll cut myself short on the details but I changed the oil twice on the trip as a safety measure. I didn't want to abuse the bike the wrong way.

I did have a two gallon fuel bladder that kept me from worrying about gas but I only needed it on the dirt road out of Dillon.

Ok, my back ground is taking a Ducati 996 on a 500+ mile trip with out thinking twice so I know torture racks.

The 'Berg is anything but. You just need to move your but around and not ride like an old man on a Beemer with your butt planted in the same spot the whole time.

I loved the trip and the bike I took it on. I hope to repeat it in the future. My buddies want to head out to the Black Hills after what I told them it was like, great roads, paved and dirt.

Hmm? Could I get a steal of a deal on an '09 570 or 450 come this spring? I need to make more money and the economy needs to keep looking for the bottom. I'm the only one I know that has been buying since the world is on whole sale.

Sadly I did do a job on some new gear on a mountain road at 6k feet or so when I neglected to respect the potential for ice, riding on nobbies, and leaning instead of hanging off. Luckily the Galvestone pants did a great job on the pavement and later in keeping the rain out though they were a bit aerated.

Bottom line; you can do most any trip on any bike you desire as long as you are willing to deal with its shortcomings and plan accordingly.

I hope you find a deal on an FS. I hear its a demon on the roads.

Cheers!
