SHELL ROTELLA-T 15W40 OIL

Is there a reason that people were using the T (conventional) as opposed to the T6 (synthetic)? I understand there is a cost difference, but given that this oil is exponentially cheaper than Motorex to begin with, why not shoot for the synthetic Rotella?

Thoughts?

That's all I use. In all my Iron bikes 2T/4T my Big Block Pro Street Pick up and all my commercial trucks. That's the one you want. Don't believe in extra long miles and hours between oil changes, like to see whats going on inside. That's why I like the T.

Changes after every event or 2 or more hours of riding on the bike, small reservoir 700 to 900 ml, oil is cheap motor are expansive. I know wasted a few over the years.

I'm tracking what you're saying, but assume that I will change the oil at the same interval given Synthetic or Conventional...

because it's good to change your oil often looking for metal flakes. For as often as you should be doing it, conventional is fine.

However, I confess I went for years as a motorex full synth guy. Good stuff and no complaints except the hit on the wallet. If I'm going to race, i still waffle over dino blend and full synth.

I've been using Rotella T (Dino) in the white jug since 130 hours in my 05 650.
At 520 hours now. Same piston, rings, valves.

Every 10 hours, or less. Average is around 6-7 hours.
New filter every 3rd or 4th change.

No issues with clutch slippage? One thing I would hate to do is ruin clutch plates by switching to the Dino oil. There was talk of potential friction modifiers despite the MA rating, so I will investigate. I have a Rekluse, don't know if it makes a difference.

Hey Camp Borden,
And yes, just cheaper with the non sync oil if you wish to change your oil more often, and I found after I put the Rekluse in the 450 the oil looked better, could go longer between changes but I don't.

And change my filters every time, just use the paper Hi flo not I believer in the reusable filter seems like you are put the crap back in the motor.

Some bikes have smaller filters than the 155, and go 3000 miles on them.

3 x 7 hour oil changes only works out to about 500 miles at the most, well within the filters useable life IMO.

I've never seen one that has any signs of collapse.

I get a little clutch squeal at times, but they all do that.

I was told by Taffy that on the older bikes pre 2009 its better to use Dino than syn

Mineral oil for me too, used it for 100 hours in my 09. Costs like $4/liter in bulk, gets used in my car, my diesel landcruiser, lawn mower engine and hydrostatic trans, chainsaw bar lube, and 2t gearboxes.

Got a 5 gallon bucket of the T that goes in everything I own that uses oil! Been through several over the years.

I just bought 4 L (well 4 qt) of the dyno stuff. I have some Ipone 10W50 that I may use first...

Despite what has been said here regarding the Rotella, I am still worried about my clutch for some reason!

Ah being dumb as soup:- I've just got a 390 and the previous owner has been running it on Putoline Nano 10-50 which is a little expensive. So which oil should I use being in the UK our oil options appear to differ. Bike is bog standard but will hopefully benefit from a Rekluse as soon as I can work out which one to get. Thanks to all for there patience

No worries, just change your oil and don't slip the clutch if you can avoid it.

If it is a Rekluse and is set up correct you have nothing to worry about,
