RON 95 or US RON 91?? Confused

Can anyone please explain to me why the owner's manual for an '05 FE 550 E shows the fuel required to be RON 95 (US=premium RON 91). Is there some difference between the Euro spec and the US model? Is there some difference that allows the US model to run a lower grade of fuel for what I would assume is identical compression ratio? Maybe US fuel is graded differently? Sorry if it's a newb question but I couldn't find anything by searching. Thanks in advance for your time and input.

The United States uses R+M/2

Research plus Motor divided by 2.

Many other countries rely on Research numbers only.

91 R+M/2 is sufficient.
