riding up 3-4 foot ledges

Smorg,

... This weekend, I saw my first Erzberg program on TV (a bit embarrassed to say I had never heard of it before). Wow! That is all I have to say. of 1300 riders, 21 finished. ...

I rode the Erzberg Enduro 3 times, from 1998 - 2000. Out of the 1300, 500 qualify for the main event, and they start 10 rows of 50 riders according to their qualifying time. A heck of a party, and BS - ing with Juha Salminen on the way to the start was alone worth the whole trip.
Actually, it was more participation than anything else, although in my best year I started from row 7. And, by beating the kids from my village, I earned the bragging rights for the following year. And never ever came close to finish ...

BTW: the reason why only a selected few finish: the ledges they make you ride - or at least attempt there - are really mean. I simple don't have the skills or the guts.

Franz,

From what I saw in the video, I too, would not finish. Honestly, I woulldn't even bother showing up. The terrain there is rediculous. It is set in a mine, from the looks of it.

Before they started, I hadn't realized that they rode straight up between the roads!!! In some areas it was stated as an 80degree incline.

Fryguy had to jump some jersey barriers in the 24 hour DB mag ride (or something equiv), and I still think that is nearly impossible. If I recall, he was one of the only ones who did it, then they made a bypass around the obstacle. Fry, I hope someone bought you a beer or two for that!!!

[EDIT - Duh, this is the post that states that Fry did the jersey barrier thing, didn't read the first page...]

SInce you mentioned Erzberg, besides the Dymond and the other BMW dudes, a couple Canadian's have gone to ride the Rodeo. Clint Riviere, has rode the last 3 ISDEs for Team Canada, and Marty Halmazna, who rode to a 24th last year at the rodeo and also was highlighted in Speed's coverage of the Last Man Standing, finishing 7th. Last year Marty rode a sx 525 without the kickstarter, most called him crazy,.....well, let's not debate that, but anyway he's on a 300 this year, and hoping to qualify out of the prologues into the front row, where he hopes to avoid bottlenecks. I believe they are going to have updates on www.dirttv.net.

Non berg but who cares....

Canuck off road bad azz Marty Halmazna finished Erzberg for the second year in a row. He was 18th. Only 19 of 500 finished.

Another Canuck tough guy, Clint Riviere almost made it. He got to check point 13 of 15.

Here is a cool video they posted of Marty at Erzberg 2007
