Revisiting aftermarket exhaust for 2011 FE570

I know this topic has been covered but after spending an hour reading older posts and then not finding what I'm after I had to ask again.

I want to let my baby breath and still be close to legal on sound in CA. I don't want to spend the money for an Acra. I think an FMF Q in blue would be good but still open to suggestions. My local shops can't tell me which slip ons will fit my bike. I also have an early 70 Degree subframe tank.

If you have an idea for me, will you please post a current link or provide the part number?

Many thanks for any guidance.

Ride On...

I installed the FMF Factory 4.1 RCT Titanium slip-on muffler for the 2011-2013 ktm 250 350 450 sxf on my 09 FE 450. It bolted right up. Mounting hanger tabs matched up perfectly. However is does not seat fully up to the stop on the mid pipe. It is about 1/4 inch short. There is plenty of overlap on the muffler and mid pipe so I dont see an issue with it not seating all the way up on the mid pipe. I used some hi-temp copper RTV on the joint. The muffler is not loud using the spark arrestor insert. It's actually quieter than I thought it would be. It came with a quiet core insert and I had planned on running but using only the SA insert it has a nice deep exhaust note that is not obnoxious at all.

With the stock muffler I felt it was lacking some low rpm torque. The FMF muffler lets it breath better and I now have more low end grunt. I've read the FMF Q works nicely too.

The FMF Powercore4 slip-on worked great on my '10 FE450. Great sound without being loud, lighter and more power... and cheaper than most others. Fit great too!

I know you said you did not want to pay the price for the Akra but IMHO it is worth it. I have had nothing but trouble with FMF's. Mostly the spark arrestors uninstalling themselves on the trail. The Akra on my 570 seems as quiet stock at low rpm and louder but not objectionably so WFO. Just in case someone is lurking the Akra is not loud at all.

I have the FMF Factory 4.1 exhaust with the spark arrester and the 94 dB insert. It's the solution to the ridiculously restrictive factory can, and is the best money I've spent on my FE570S. But even with the 94dB insert (which actually sounds better than without the insert), I think it's probably much too loud to pass inspection in California. I would recommend you go with the Q4.

Chief - what part # / model did you get and what did you pay for the Akra?

Thanks everyone for the info - I guess it's up to $$ and sounds like the FMF is a good option to save some $$. I'm going for a week-long riding trip with the stocker since I don't have time to pull the trigger but when I'm back I'll consult the balance sheet and make a decision.

Many thanks for all the input!

I'm rocking a Lexx slip on.

Although the bloke I bought the bike off didn't actually mount it to the bike, so its held on by one spring clip.

Is there anything I can buy or someone that can fab something up?

I put a Wings, http://www.wings.si/ver3/index.html , on my FE570. Great sound and waaaay cooler running. Biggest problem now is the heat out of the exhaust. Because of not getting trapped in the can, it has melted the rear turn signal twice.

Seems like it was less than $400 shipped for the Ti can with carbin fibre end cap. NOT stamped USFS spark arrester, but does include 2 different screens.

Sorry on vacation... this part number 81205079000 and I got mine at bossoffroad.com for $750.

My acra came with 2 spark arrestors. One had the legal restriction in it, so in other words useless as it was. I took away that plate and I also took away the fine spark mesh. This way the spark arrestor is not as restrictive but still no change in sound. So it's not useful for catching sparks anymore, but it lowers the dB and let the engine breath. The other one I kept as is if I need it some day.
Just a tip.

I think after reading the thread I'll order the FMF q 4 or the q 4 hex. Can someone give me the right part# or the KTM that I can cross ref. I have a 2011 FE 570. I want a direct fit and the FMF didn't list the q 4 for the berg?? Thanks guys.

1++++ on the 4.1 I put this same pipe on my 2011 570S and it did great. I don't have a loudness problem with mine though. Way to go........

Got the 4.1 ups today. Installed in a snap, much easier than the X3 on the Husqy. Sounds great! Can't wait to stud the tires for a snow run!

I installed the FMF 4.1 on my 2011 FE570 that had been desmogged. I actually lost low power, mid power and throttle response compared to my modified stock can (the small diameter portion of the end cap removed). I thought the 4.1 was making the bike run ever leaner than the stock lean condition. I sent my ECU to Fritz at Gunnison Motorsport. Fritz programmed in the "competition map". This made a terrific difference! I noticed a big boost in power throughout the power band (it was no slouch before). Couldn't be happier.

I personally don't think the 4.1 with insert is much louder than the Q2. With the 4.1 and insert you can finally hear the exhaust over the intact moan (nice for a change). The 4.1 without insert is loud.

I also have 4.1 it comes with a db killer insert + some kind of metal ring to fit in the end cap I (optionaly) added spark arrestor with the order it's exactly the same as the db killer insert but whit some kind of net on it.
Without any inserts the bike is VERY loud and I think performance is not that good bike feels less agressive low/midrange.
Runs best with just ring inserted (still loud though) or db killer but for enduro riding/ low noise I would choose the q4

This is true. I dynode the 4.1 with and without the ring insert. It did loose power. Years ago when I worked for FMF they would put a little ring like that in the end of silencers for the two strokes. Only gave it to the factory guys as it was felt that the general public would not be able to feel the difference.

I have a titanium 4.1 with the quite core spark arrestor. I like it, my butt dyno says it runs better than the stock pipe and still pretty quiet. I took the insert out and it was way too loud for me.

How long are you guys going between repacks on these? I don't want to ruin that pretty titanium.

I have done almost 150 hours before opening the exhaust...
If I knew it would still look that good I wouldn't have touched it but I replaced it anyway because I already ordered the new packing.

Took the FMF 4.1 sticker off the can and it looks so much better with out that mix up if bad colors. What was FMF thinking when they made that sticker?
