Just ordered 4 of those big boys for my mates 929.
They are certainly cost effective.
Hope they come with the screw threads, they would
make it real easy to assemble.

they do make it easy .. careful tightening up as one end is aluminium and the other is steel

the threads are m6x1 no nuts supplied

Have you tried them out yet Bushie? not sure they are the genuine A 123
there are copies out there, they don`t have the logo and bar code in the
picture.

Mailing lithium batteries now days is a problem although Lifepo4s are pretty safe, unfortunately they get lumped in together with the more fire troubled chemistries.

Nice loooooong thread on Lithium batteries Motorcycle Batteries .. AGM, GEL, Wet, Lithium Iron Phosphate (LiFePO4) | Adventure Rider

The regulator/rectifier may need to let a bit more voltage through for the lithium battery to charge it fully.

Well I finally replaced the original battery on my 09 Berg. It was starting to show signs of sluggish starting. I was very pleased with the OEM battery performance so I replaced it with the same Yuasa battery. $85 through Amazon versus $135 at the shop. Anyway, as it turns out the battery was still good but the terminals were like they were rotten. They just broke apart when I went to remove the fasteners. I wish my street bike batteries would last that long.

Every standard YTZ7S type battery will fit the box. So if you wanna go cheap you can buy one for 30 bucks from ebay.

Because of starting problems I tried both (cheap ebay and a LiFePO4/Super B) and both work good. Starting problem was the decompression lever on the camshaft.

No kicker on a 390 :)

'starting problem'...you mean the needed touch of throttle when hot?
if yes, is there a solution about the decompression lever?

No, not enough power to go through the compression. There is a serie of cams with not good working decompression systeem.

Hi gang,

Has anyone tested a 4-cell LiFePO4 battery to start a 570 or similar? "Normal" / common 26650-size cell?

Or has a useful comparison between starting a DRZ and a 570 with a similar type battery?

I got these for the DRZ: Motorcycle Starter Battery LiFePO4 A123 ANR26650M1A 12V 2.3AH 4S1P_26650_A123 start battery_A123 RC Battery|High Quality Battery|Wholesale Ebike Battery

FWIW: They're enough for the DRZ! Turns the starter a bit slower than the slightly-oversize lead-acid I had. I suspect they're off-brand A123 cells. Afaik a real 4-cell A123 spins a DRZ up faster than a stock or oversize lead-acid. Might be wiring - I have a lot of not very thick wire between the battery as I didn't clean up the harness, just tacked the Andersson harness on and droped the battery in the battery box.

I'm going to be trying one for the 'Berg. Would be useful to have comparisons and long-term experience if anyone has. Thanks!

Hi Tourist.

They should work fine if they are A123`s. The price is good!
They can turn the starter a bit slow when they are cold,
but as they warm up during starting they release more amps.
Give the starter short bursts of just a few seconds and rests in between.
I not sure what they will be like in Icelandic conditions.

If the bike is an easy starter you will have no problems.
My 675 has been a bit difficult to start lately (mid carb gasket leak I think)
so I am thinking of having a jumper to give it a bit more when cold. Once
it has been running it is not a problem to restart.

My homemade battery is about 4years old now I think.

Cheers spanner

thanks!! -- I do have a 4-cell one on hand and it works fine in the DRZ! wondering if anyone had a comparison :)

For the record, a very simple $45 4-cell A123RC.com battery will easily start a cold Husaberg 570 :)

And they're very hard to kill - I have now forgot both of mine in the DRZ until they ran flat. (One time the high parasitic drain, the other time I forgot the headlamp on :) I just dropped them on a LiFePO4 charger which has a "nudge charge" program as it turns out and now they're both back to 100%.

I've ran that same pack with studs in my DRZ tires commuting in winter in freezing temperatures. No problems. Always easy starting.

Not bad for a 4S1P battery - raised from the dead - on an Andersson 75 connector - to start a large-bore high-compression single-cylinder. Lead acid is DEAD. Thank you, goodbye.

Hi again! Time to order more packs!

Anyone know about assembled packs with:
- Genuine A123 cells
- Balancing tap
- Andersson 75 connector

Backstory fwiw - So I killed one A123RC.com pack (left the DRZ with the key in and turned on right outside the house! For three days! Forgot to lock it too! I really do not deserve to have this bike still unstolen!!) ... and I lost the other pack I had! As they are so small and convenient!!!

So looking to buy new packs. I'll order from A123RC.com again unless I can find packs that are an improvement for a similar price. Would order EarthX - from my research they're worth it! - but I don't have the money atm :(

The A123RC packs use fake A123 cells. (Good quality though! A 4s1p battery which will start a large-displacement high-compression single has good quality cells.) And they use Andersson 50 connectors. Andersson connectors are great!, but I read the Andersson 50 datasheet and the maximum pulse current is a little low (50 means they're reated for a constant 50A, pulse is iirc 100A which is lower than I'd like). Andersson 75 connectors would have something like 150A pulse max. And finally, they lack balancing taps.

FWIW I did send A123RC.com an email to check if they did custom-type Andersson connectors and balancing taps. I actually care more about the connectors than the cell type. Got a "failed to send" reply but I've just tried again with a plain-text email. Will post up further info in case it's useful.

Update in case it's usefu: A123Rc.com don't respond to emails and are uncontactable as far as I can see :/

EarthX service is super friendly and competent! Looking forward to receiving two ETX12A batteries from them soon.

I just grabbed the cheapest battery I could find and fits perfectly and works. Old Yuasa was great but didn't survive 4th Finnish winter with absolutely zero maintenance. I'm suprised it took so long with my carelessness!
