So I just picked up an 11 FE390. Seemed like a bought it from a good guy, very cool to talked to, had a quite a few nice bikes, and while he didnt keep everything spotless like I try too, he seemed to have kept up on all the service work.
Well it was around 20 degrees when i got there, bike would turn over but not start. We put it on a jumper and it took a while, but she did fire over. And when warm, she fires right up.
I get home, put the battery on my battery tender, and she would not fire at all, turn over, but not fire. Totally drained the battery trying to get it started. Put it on a jumper and a few more tries and she fired up. Again, fired right up after it warm.
So I have it on the battery tender, and walk into the garage an hour later to find the headlight, tail light, and FI light along with fuel pump firing for a second or two, then shutting off.
I pull it off the battery tender, and it stops doing that.
What might make it so hard to start? Could it just be the cold? It doesnt sound like the valves or anything are tapping, and it runs smooth and fires right up when warm.
Also, it is a harsh shift into first...sometimes it stalls just on the shift into first, i know some bikes just have sticky clutches on initial startup, is that normal on these bergs?
