possible thermostat failure

rode with my buddies who have KTM ex 350 and doing some tuff, slow single track there fan was working and was not, when i got home notice my guild is low. obviously i have been overheating and boiling the antifreeze, ! hoe do i check to see if my thermostat is working, and fan?

My fan runs quite a bit in the tight single track, my fluid level sits below the top fin of the rad as per expansion.
A simple check is to short the wires together at the thermostat to see if the fan is working, bike must be running. Check fuse also. Run your bike at idle as it will heat fast and watch for fan turn on prior rad cap fluid release.
