Possible Fuel pump issue?

My 09 fe450 runs fine from cold but when when it gets hot (Boiling rads hot) it starts to stall in low revs, like the kill switch has been hit for 1-2 seconds starts to die in low revs.

Today when out and the bike was warmish I stopped and it would not restart for about 30 seconds just had to wait and then it started again but when riding along it was prone to stalling (again like kill switch being hit) I forgot to listen to hear if the pump was priming but they seem to be going cheap on ebay so I might take a gamble on one if it sounds like a pump issue.

Other things I was thinking is plug or plug cap? I have not replaced the plug in god knows how long on the bike.

Ohh, sorry 09. Nevermind my previous post.
Check tps first. Dont forget to set mapswitch to stock

I'll check the TPS and see what voltage its reading. Change the plug and check the Tps is possibly the best things to try on it first.

Just a update, I washed the bike tonight and changed the plug with an Oem one. Started the bike on the stand and it would only idle but on throttle it would cut out. So then I changed the plugcap with a brand new Oem one and then I tried to start the bike but it would not fire, so popped the plugcap and connected it to the old plug and spark is perfect. Plugcap back on and then tried to fire and it started after a few tries but again I can crack the throttle or the bike will die.

Does this look like a possible TPS issue? I have yet to take the tank off and check the voltage.

I had a issue before riding though water or puddles that it would cut and you could not restart for 30 seconds or so and then require careful throttle once restarted or it would cut out until it had dried off. I had this with both my fx450 and Fe I fixed it on the Fx by replacing the plugcap.

I don't think it's the TPS, but you could check it anyway if you have a multimeter. Search this site for info.

Start it when it's dark and have a look at the cap. If it's moisture in it you can see sparks jumping to the cylinder. If so use 5-56 or similar and blow it dry with air, or use a new/dry cap.
See how the lead looks at the end. If it looks bad you can cut the tip (not too much as you don't want it too short).

Just a longshot here.

As you noted Water? Take the air filter out and see what happens. Wet air filter will idle but then under throttle it pulls and stalls ?????????????

TPS will do the same if out of parameters, it will read incorrect measurement and try to compensate and can stall the motor. Did you crash on the tps side prior the issue?

Just some thoughts. Plugged fuel line can also do the same, starving for fuel.

Another note, just because you see spark on the plug does not always say there is enough spark. ECM machines can have something called a driver, drivers control how hot the spark is and they can sometimes give spark but not enough. What can happen is the fuel will douse the spark when throttle is opened up (not super common). Happens allot in autos with bad drivers in the PCM/ECM. To check spark you will require a spark tester that can be set to gap and then fire it. It will tell you how much drive you have to your plug. Sorta like the plug boot shorting to ground.

Tried plug and cap both new Oem just installed, sprayed water and no sign.

Airfilter off and still the same spluttering, it will only idle when I can get the bike to start. When it idles if I touch the throttle now the bike splutters and dies, I did manage to get it to rev up slightly and it ran crap and cut out. Fuel pump is priming.

I think this could be a worn wire or water now. Any one know any wires or plugs that have known issues? Tps will be checked tomorrow night.

Check the TPS if that's OK I would be looking at fuel pressure. I had a similar problem that turned out to be a split fuel hose in the tank. Check for split or loose hoses, fuel filters (fuel pump, inline and injector filters) and fuel pump pressure, but remember you could have good pressure but bad flow.
Also do what ever Jon Anderson tells you to do first, he has had a fair bit of experience with the fuel injected Berg's.

That is flattering Smash101! But honestly I'm no expert. However I do have experienced quite a few things as I have two 570s and many of my friends have 70degs, and what I learned (many times the hard way) is to start checking the easy things and then move on to the more complex/costly fixes.

Can you explain this..? If you really did it my intention was the opposite :) I once had trouble starting and it run like ****. Took it to my dealer and he showed me that sparks were jumping from the cap to the cylinder, in effect wasting spark energy. That was due to water/moisture in and around the cap. I installed a new cap and the problem was gone (the interesting thing is that your engine doesnt run with your new oem cap, which kinda indicates the problem might be there somewhere).

Now I don't buy a new cap, I just blow the cap dry, clean it with 5-56 and then blow it dry again with air. Water can creep in due to wet rides or, mostly, from hi-pressure washing the bike.
