Oils and oil additives

I have been reading this site for about two weeks now and enjoying doing so. I never came across concentrated topic of recommend oils and additives. Most interesting would be if "old timers" would be willing to share their verified successful experience. What oil and additive have shown to be working really good in the Bergs?

Some are said to be bad for different bearing cage metals ect as they can react.

I don't believe in additives but for an old worn out engine to keep it from using oil, but that is only mainly due to not having the money to recondition it, and they could be doing more harm than good when it comes time to recondition the engine.
A engine should be pulled down before it's rooted.
