Ok I have 20 hours on my bike and the suspension has broken in big time. It now rides like a cheap pool stick on rocks from hell. I mean I was misrable today on the bike. Dropped two clicks on compression and rebound last week to help a little, but this week it's a disaster.

I weigh 260 lbs and I guess its time to re-spring the bike and re-valve it. I ride woods , single track, double track, rocks roots and bumps.

I had Dicks Racing do my Husqvarna, It was a nice improvement. Any one else in Norther California that does Husaberg suspension?

I nead help. weird the bike was like a caddilac new, now its NOT. never had this problem on my 06 FE450e......could it be something else going on?

Sounds wierd that it would get more harsh after break in. Have you bled the presssure out of the forks? I plan to have Dicks set up the suspension on my Berg real soon. If you liked what he did with your Marzocchis, you'll be amazed at how his "PDS" mod makes the WPs float through the rocks. Dicks PDS mods on my KTM and ATK turned the foks from marginal to excellent!

only got a little air out of right side. Thanks, yeah I think I'm just gonna have to bite the $$ bullet and have Dick do my bike.

Hey BigBob,
Check the rear sag. It tends to get real soft after a while. That will make the bike not steer properly and the front end seem harsh. I set mine at 3-1/2 to 4". I still think you will have to get new springs. The stock ones work fine for me but I only weigh about 185.

I have had to turn up the rebound dampening quite a bit front and rear to keep things froom getting busy.

well I ride woods trails with rocks and roots and bumps, the trails are hard going. I have found in the past that sofftening the suspension makes it more well softer and floaty over the small chop , bumps, rocks and roots.

This was also at Dick's advise on My Husky after he revalved it and added a new rear spring.........However if you soften too much then when I jump water bar jumps and land the bike will blow thru the stroke and have a bottoming clunk feel to it, so you add compression back in - per Dick

True these adjustments probably only so good when I am under sprung.......But It worked on my 05 Fe450e without re springing it.
My Problem may be I have set to set the sag as Celtic Dude said. I did re-set the sag on my Fe450 at about 14 hours and as I said the forks with the stock springs treated me fine.

I'll check and set the sag on my fe550 today. Maybe that will help. I'm getting married next week and spending all sorts of cash on that and the honeymoon, otherwise I would just drop the bike off at DICK"S and get er done.

Thanks for advice.

Hi Bigbob these guys are in Washington and have a great produce I have used on both my 2000 and 2004 bikes they are moto-pro.com check them out

Bob

At your weight you certainly need springs, even good set up will leave you with substandard working suspension. While you were happy with your 450, with the springs it will be much better yet. Run at least a 46 fork spring and try a 80-103 ( or there abouts, depends on the manufacturers specs ) on the rear. I ran std suspension on 05/06/07 bikes and the improvement was huge going with siffer springs. The progressive is VERY nice on the back. I'm a 240 plus gear A rider, so I am close to your weight.

And a revalve will certainly help as well

enjoy your wedding, and don't forget your 'I Do's'

congrats bob and the best of luck. as the bike is high maintenance can we take it that "her indoors" will be as well?

have a great honeymoon and then come home and save for the next force ride coz i need to meet you and shoot some shinola with you.

carolina or oregon - i'll save to be there again.

regards

Taffy

Thanks guys,

Ok Dan Motoxotica has a pair of 4.8 fork springs for me and a choice of a 8.4 rear or the progressive 71-90 rears spring. I am go for the fork springs, which rear spring would you advise, one of those choices or do I need to order one? I'll ask some suspension friends too. My weight again is 260lbs.

Shall I have him switch out the fork oil? I guess it's time for me to read the Doc on suspension.

YamhaGinger (Connie), my bride, rides too

and yeah we'll would like to make a western US berg force ride someday.

Hey Bob,
The 48's are what I run up front, should work just fine for you. 130mm oil level from the top.
I run Factory connection's FCW-H spring on the rear, it's a 9.0-11.5 progressive rate spring. You rode my scoot, nice bigboy setup.
I know your busy this coming weekend, but lemme know if you need a helping hand installing the new springs and picking my brain on clicker settings.
If your interested in the Factory Connection rear spring, I think Mach1 carries them in stock, I'll check tomorrow.
Gimme a holler,
Dan

The 4.8s will work, but the 71/90 is too light, I think the WP is 80-111 or something very similar is what you want. 90 is too light for you, the bike will settle in the rear too much and not track properly. I don't think that the 8.4 will work well with the 4.8s. I ran a 4.6 and 8.4 and the balance was ok. I then changed to the 8.0-10.3 and things were a lot better on the small bumps and roots. The 4.8-8.4 combo may leave you with really good stability, but poorer cornering prowess, especially on hard flat corners.

Wow, Can I judge Connie's ability by the photo, and ask how you handle eating her dust all day? LOL

hardly be it for me to argue with an ISDE rider and his suspension choice but i sailed clean through all the OEM WP springs and at 200LB even the last spring - the PDS4 at 99/111 is possibly not enough for racing.

i have 48s front and they're great for racing. 46s would have done for me so 48s = in there.

i suggest the PDS9 as RT call it which i think is 105/120? as far as a straight rate goes well i know that a straight 95 wasn't enough on a katoom 520exc i set up and a 100 would have done which brings me to the conclusion that you half your weight for the front springs and take your weight for the rear.

could be some easy maths there....

fryguy, i'm afraid that world title will have to wait for you.....

back to back testing required!

Taffy

thanks, I'll do some research on the rear spring.

"Factory connection's FCW-H spring on the rear, it's a 9.0-11.5 progressive rate spring." Tirebiter's advice sounds good he is a big guy i rode his WP- KTM scoot

Bob,
One thing you could do before actually buying your springs is call Dicks, see what springs they recommend, and would use if they were doing the full tilt boogie on your scoot.
Could save some bucks buying more springs in the long run.

Another well respected suspension guru is this guy..considered one of the best for setting up KTM's, and from what I've heard, has great customer feedback in getting your scoot just the way you want it.

Check out their "Service" section, their prices for various types of suspension work are reasonable..

Taffy, you are right, I never could test when it mattered, and found out the important stuff after the ISDE trips....so goes it.

I've often wondered about your rates, but I rode with about the same spring as you with my 02, but the damping has become increasingly stiffer with each year. Your softer damping will allow the bike to settle into its travel when bumps are encountered, but the new stuff will turn into a board with those heavy springs. Besides, the WP techs would always look at me sideways when I asked them to install the 4.6 or 4.8 springs, " what are you doing?" even the Berg guys would shake their heads. So I've had to reassess my spring choices. With out a full revalve the std shock has a tough time dealing with big springs as well, especially on rebound.

THen we have to think that everyone rides differently, their body position, throttle habits etc, everyone is different.

Lets let Bob get over the honey moon, and when his mind is back on the Husaberg he can tell us what he found, have fun at the hitchin' Bob

Taff, can't wait to share a brew again, now we have to topics to avoid, jetting and now suspension setup.

cheers

fry
