No longer a lurker

what mods do you have planned? I see the estart and battery are still installed. Have you ordered the new smaller tank yet? These bikes are so good stock, I just can't believe it. I suspect you will sell a few of these, they just sell themselves. I have let a few riders take my '06 for a spin, they come back smilling and commenting on it being the best 4T they have ever ridden, by far. We even did back to back testing with my bike and '06 and '07 xc-w 300's, the 300s felt a bit lighter and easier to ride at first, but were much slower accelerating and steered much heavier. In the end, I still perferred the Husey.

I dont think I am going to do too much with the FE450. Hard Parts skid plate for sure. I am definitely going to add the skinny tank when it comes out in Feb or try to convince Roland to send me an Omero. The stock tank is OK, but the width is noticeable. Not offensive, but noticeable.

I was out riding all day today with some buds and had to leave the 450 at home as it wasnt prepped enough for my tastes. I rode my 07 Husky WR135 instead. I did get to spend a lot of time on my buds 380 and it is still really tempting. It is "perfect" power IMO. The estart will probably stay on because I am too lazy to take it off but there is no question that it doesnt "need" it like some other thumpers do.

One thing that I really noticed on the 380 is how good the stock suspension is. I am very impressed with the forks and shock on my buds 380.

Re: 496 yes, but not a 450

I sure would like to ride a 496 as that seems possible. My 300 has the head and JD kit and can stay fairly close to my 05 550fc in a fast start. For sure the 300 has big possibilities as I have built up four of them to around 50+horse. I thought the previous post was about a stock 450 out running a 300. I have not tested the 07 but was at the 06 dealer test ride and felt it nice for enduro but not real quick off the bottom.

What do I need for the 496 kit? Do you think the 496 has the kind of quick power that is needed for moto?
Thanks,
The 496 is a sleeved down 550. I have not seen the kit offered as aftermarket (yet). For me, I think that it is a good moto motor, but I am not a good moto rider. The 496 is designed for world enduro racing, so it is strong, fast, smooth, and finds traction where traction doesn't exist. The faster the terrain, the more I like it. Again, to be fair, the 300's that I rode were probably jetted lean (to get clean throttle response) because the riders use them in rocks and slime, and jetting that makes max power will foul plugs when riding in those conditions. Nonetheless, my 496 will launch out of corners with ease and will loft the front wheel at any time.

I would like to be able to try all the configurations in one day (380, 450, 496, 550) to get a better feel for the differences. I have done that witih GasGas, Husky, and TM (no TM 4T), and been very surprised at which model was my favorite.

I find that I don't miss the estart, but guys that take it for a ride are nervous about stalling it and having to restart it (for the record no one has stalled it yet). If you are trying to demo it with the idea of sales in mind, then leaving it on might be a good idea.

FYI, I crashed my brains out on my buds 380 today and the bike was upside down for at least 2 minutes while I stared at the sky, and it started on the 3rd kick. There was an 06 FE550 there today as well and it started great on the kicker as well.

I couldnt believe the power of the FE 550. Ultra smooth with no hit at all. WAY nicer than a 525EXC. We were laughing saying that you could throw the shifter in the trash and just ride all day in 3rd gear.
