No longer a lurker

I hate to admit it, but I have been a lurker around here for over a year. It wasnt until the WEC in Canada that I got seriously interested in Bergs. Their Factory team had the nicest guys and the whole operation was a class act. On top of that, the bikes really impressed me. It has taken me 4 months of procrastinating, but I finally pulled the trigger and there is an 07 FE450 in my garage (still in the crate I might add). I havent decided if it is going to become a 380 or not.

So when do I learn the secret Berg owner handshake?

congrats. If you are as happy with your new bike as I am with my bike, you will be a very happy man!

crap, I knew that there was a secret handshake, in spite of what everyone said.

When you learn it, let me know.

Congrats on your new ride man, and welcome to the site!

thanks,

one 450 exc friend of mine rode my FE450 yesterday on some great woods trails. His KTM EXC is the longest stroke 450 and the Berg is the opposite shortest stroke motor, so the difference is dramatic. The poor guy is in shock. He LOVED my Fe450.

Stay with the 450, the bike motors like a dream thru the woods

Welcome to Husaberg!

It is not a secret hand shake, but rather a code we Berg people live by. The code goes like this:

1) Never take a rider out to win a race
2) Always stop to help a rider that is down
3) If a fellow rider needs a tool or whatever, we help them
4) Never cry when your bike brakes, and just accept that is part of our sport
5) When ever possible take the time to help a kid
6) Get involved with preserving our sport because many want to take it away
7) Place God first, then family next, then ridding and you will be a good Husaberg member

Now you know the code!

If I missed something please post it.

Wow....Boy Scouts on bikes!!!! Now all we need is a pledge and anthem to go with the hand shake.
Perhaps a few ammendments to the above statements.
1) Never ride with anyone faster than you.
2) Always stop to help a rider that is down. Especially if he or she has the beer.
3) Any rider that needs a tool, is a tool. Help them anyways...you can usually shame them into buying the first round.
4) Never cry when your bike breaks, but be quick to point the blame on someone else.
5) When ever possible take time to help a kid. Especially if they have a hot single mom.
6) Get involved with preserving our sport because many want to take it away....This should be the last line in the Husaberg group meeting opening prayer...Amen.
7) I'm not touching 7.

Somewhere in the middle of the two is the true code :D

Well, I cracked open the crate this afternoon and put the 450 together. I like it a lot!!

After a lot of deliberating, it is going to stay a 450 unless someone here wants to make a decent offer on my brand new sleeve and piston.

Yepp. Nailed it  8)

And scott. Big congrats on your new bike. You're gonna love it.

The nice 'Berg guys at the WEC.... One of them wouldn't be the one with the mustasch in the lower left corner (second from the left) in the pic I posted in this thread http://www.husaberg.org/index.php?name= ... pic&t=5061 ??
If so, you have met one of the biggest 'Berg "legendary" guys in existence

This is truly a coup.

Scott has been lurking for years!

next step, 3 or 4 in the showroom :)

Actually, Roland and I became pretty good acquaintances. I had no clue who he was when I met him the first time.

Roland and his wife and my wife and I actually went on a boat cruise and had dinner together one night during the WEC. I liked those guys so much, I actually let them use my old truck to shuffle bikes back and forth from the practice track for a few days.

Here is a pic of Roland after we convinced the Capt of the boat to let him drive.

what mods do you have planned? I see the estart and battery are still installed. Have you ordered the new smaller tank yet? These bikes are so good stock, I just can't believe it. I suspect you will sell a few of these, they just sell themselves. I have let a few riders take my '06 for a spin, they come back smilling and commenting on it being the best 4T they have ever ridden, by far. We even did back to back testing with my bike and '06 and '07 xc-w 300's, the 300s felt a bit lighter and easier to ride at first, but were much slower accelerating and steered much heavier. In the end, I still perferred the Husey.

300 mxc

If you rode a 300 and say the 450 was quicker that is very hard to beleive. My 05 300 will take a 450Berg 10 out of 10 times on a fast start. With the $50.00 dollar head mod on the 300 it will smoke a 450. Not even close up to about 60mph.
The 450 is fun but not real fast out of the hole as any of the Jap 450s will blow it away in a short sprint. Sorry I like Bergs to but the truth is more important than how we feel.

I have a 496, not a 450. I do contend that corner to corner, my 496 will smoke a 300 xc-w. I believe their is more performance potential in the 300's and noted that they felt slow compared to a 250.

496 yes, but not a 450

I sure would like to ride a 496 as that seems possible. My 300 has the head and JD kit and can stay fairly close to my 05 550fc in a fast start. For sure the 300 has big possibilities as I have built up four of them to around 50+horse. I thought the previous post was about a stock 450 out running a 300. I have not tested the 07 but was at the 06 dealer test ride and felt it nice for enduro but not real quick off the bottom.

What do I need for the 496 kit? Do you think the 496 has the kind of quick power that is needed for moto?
Thanks,
