Hi,

tonight i started to take apart my fs650 engine to do some service on it. My problem is i can´t find any plug or hole where i´m suppose to place the engine locking bolt as described in the repairmanual for the 05 engine (downloaded from .se). Is there a new way to lock the engine on 06 yearmodel?
I also wonder what i should replace inside the engine (minimum), having spent most of my money buying the bike the serviceacount ain´t so big at the moment.... The bike have done 115h and the servicehistory is not known to me...

nothing will fail and there's a possibility that everything might. everything has been known to go wrong once by now. I would recommend new mains, specials and better still roller mains.

cam chain will be shot by now. the valve springs can be replaced as they may break but you never know when.

good oil, regular changes, a good iridium plug and you could and should get to 200hrs i reckon.

regards

Taffy

locking bolt is on the ignition (rhs) side

remove the little pulse coil, underneath there is an M8 bolt runs parallel to the crankshaft

if you use this bolt to lock the crank while you undo the nut on the LHS (drive) side you will twist the crank on the pin. use it only to lock the crank for undoing the RHS nut.

NTN specials from orangeberg for the mains, new oil scraper ring if your fussy, can probably leave the main ring. check the counterbalancer bearing and the gearbox circlips, clutch steel plates are probably no good.

I would do the dual valve springs, my DID camchain was still ok at 200hrs.

thanks for help, i found the lockingbolt. Do i use the same lockingbolt as in front of engine or is it like ktm 525 where you only remove the thick copperwasher to lock the engine?

( I spooke with 2 previous owners today and it seems the engine has never been open´d before except for valve-adjustment. When removing timingchain tensioner there where only 3 clicks left for tensioning so it seems i took it apart just in time.....)
