Hi guys, I am at the bar whats everyone drinking?

Currently own a 2004 KTM 625 SMC but i am swapping it for a 2004 Husaberg 650.

My question is what basic things can i do to make the bike better, any cheap modifications?

Does anybody know what the best suspension set up is for these bikes? I weigh 12 stone.

Cheers Guys

Guinness please.

That'll be an interesting switch, I look forward to hearing your report.

Take a look at
"The Doc" on the left and there should be lots of info to read.

Thanks for the beer.

nin73,

:eek:ccasion5: thanks mate!

Give us all a little background such as your height, skill level, type of riding you intended to do with the bike... you know, the basics ( 12 stone is 76.2 kg or 168 lbs). Then we can try and give you a little more info on what has been done and what works and such. It sounds like you probably have been riding your current bike on the road in SuperMotard trim, would it be safe to bet that you intend to also want your Berg for a road bike? One thing that I could recommend is that you keep your oil fresh and change it often. The bikes only hold about a liter so you will have to stay on top of your oil changing regiment. Post up a little more and others will be by soon to give you a few pointers. Good to have you on board, take care chap!

Regards,

Mine is a pint of Decadence, thank you sir, and a very warm welcome to you!

Actually, there are few "easy" modifications available for the 650 because they've all been done on the production line but it does somewhat depend on what year bike you have. In my opinion the 03 and 04 650s were probably the best ones of the run so far.

If you haven't already then the race pipe is the next step in you development.

AS for suspension, I would highly recommend you spend some time to find out what works for you and therefore to experiment - but how much experience do you have in this area already, e.g. familiarising yourself with setting up sag and then adjusting high/low speed compression etc. etc.?

Cheers,
Simon

Bike will be used 60% as a road bike 40% on the track. I previously has a rather Special SP1 which i has profesionally set up for my weight and style. I can't do this myself so thats why i went the profesional route.

I probably only do about 1200-1300 miles a year so the bike wont rack up much mileage.

Changing from the 625smc as i am finding it rather underpowered and overweight. Its generally ok but i want something a bit fitter!

Me i am 5ft 10in, 12 stone, intermediate group at a track day, not so much into top speed more extreme cornering!! Currently decking out the pegs and riding off the side wall of the 625, so its Berg time.

Welcome mate! I also have an '05 FS650c 'Berg Motard bike, you wont regret your decision! Small world as I also have an '04 SP2! (Nicky Hayden replica) You're obviously a gentleman of good taste! And make mine a pint-o-Guinness, Cheers! :D

P.S. You might want to check with Dale Lineaweaver (on this site) he did some mods to the carburation on my bike (re-jetting/removal of accelerator pump) that really transforms the power delivery.

Just picked up the bike and been out for a blat. What a bike! Weighs the same as push bike and that engine! :D

the word 'stones' tells us you're a brit but is that a cute way of saying bristol in them there parts or is brissle some obscure little haven i've never heard of?

welcome and hoover up the knowledge.

try the doc as has been said, also talk to gary grover, an excellent dealer for tips. look up later owners manuals and gleen what the factory moded anyway.

Oh yes my lovely. I is definatley from down that way, ooo ahh!!

Just given the bike an oil and filter change. Little bit of swarf round the plug, but nothing i felt to dramatic about. Checked through the oil when draining it and there was nothing there. Couldn't get the screen bolt off though. Is that an issue?

Just need to get myself an aftermarket exhaust and i am away!

screen bolt?

you mean the drain plug/bolt itself. they are bastards mate i'll tell ya! but you've got to do it one way or another.

try to get a new washer for the next time and don't forget that they don't need to be tightened silly tight.

Taffy, the young man said he has a 04 650!

It has a separate magnetic drain plug AND a screen plug. The screen plug has a rubber o-ring seal.

The screen plug was probably just over tightened.

Use a 1/2" 6 point socket to loosen it! The 1/2 " 6 point socket fits better on this plug than the 13mm, and is les likely to round the corners on the plug. If it is really tight you may have to shock it loose by hitting the socket wrench with your hand.

:)

Joe
