Tell me more about this carb? Is it a mod to the standard one, or a new oversized one?

And no so keen on the cone filter idea, i've seen people struggling with them on wet days.

Chris

You mod the standard carb. Makes big diffrent!

I've been riding all year with a Papercross filter straight on the carb. Havn't had any problem with it on wet days. You will have to modify the frame though. The connection for the inlet on the frame have to be removed.

RE: Re: RE: Pipe

Cool, I think im gonna look into sort that for next year like. Thanks

RE: Re: RE: Pipe

Just a bit of an update as to what Im changing on the 650 for this year. After doing some winter racing with the sports bikes on the big tracks Ive decided against giving the bike more power with the oversized carb, as i just won't need it for sumo' tracks. But Ive been offered a frame with a 3 degree steeper angle on the headstock that Im going to try out over the next couple of months to see what kind of feel that gives the bike. I've been reliably informed its a great mod, so Im looking forward to trying it out! :)

Also, Im managed to somehow fluke myself the loan of a 550 for the year and have been on it about 5 times so far. It too has a 'tweaked' motor ;) and pulls like a trooper, but the handling is unreal..... I think Im in love :D lol!

Thats it at the moment really, Ill let y'all know how that frame turns out

done it chris! fitted mine 3 years ago to my '02. yes it's far better. more weight by 1% on the front. the front guard will scrape the frame so modify that if tyou like your bikes ****-n-span!

you can use your old coil mounted sideways and only held by one bolt.

would suggest that you get a set of the 18mm yokes to test as well. they can go plus or minus 1mm. i have a set of pink ones here!

.....well somone's got to wear them!

there is a test on the frames probably under handling in the doc. why don't you try reading it, seeings as you're 3-5 years behind the loop? i know you northerners are the last to hear nything but that really is taking it to far!
doa search as well with m as the author and maybe i wrote up an on-the-day report.

i got me grinder ready 08 frame going under the knife

the 09s have less weight on the front hey taffy keep up at the back old teacup :)

8O might keep that in mind whilst I watch the Aussie dollar regain some value. Think my money is better spent getting that akra exhaust it desperately needs. Spewin I sold my old akra slipon to Awilsck now but who knew....

hey wildman, I could sell it back to ya....?!

Nah!!

I can't reall tell exactly what the carb doing for my engine setup, but I now get in love every time I ride. And for sure I have allot more power now then before (then just standard rebuilt intake and akra exhaust), but the biggest improvment is in the handling. It's so nice in the low revs and it's way eisier to give that little little gas early in the curvs to start bulding upp the speed. And then at the top it just never seems to stop to rev. I could skip using at least 1 gear at any track and that means allot to find a good flow when riding.

Chris didn't you ride in Mettet this year? For example I just ride that track on 2, 3 and 4 th gear. No need for more :)

My engine setup:

43,5 mm carb
Headjob (not much modified really)
Oversize titanium valves.
Akrapovic
Modified intake.

I also changed frame for this year. Husaberg that built it, exactlu the same frame as the use in WC except that mine is made for the standard cooler. Have just tried it on a small indoor cart track so can't really say much about it yet.

Cheers

The frame I use is already quite heavily modified, and the one Ill be trying is something quite special :D Fair play if you've got/tried it, but Im quite looking forward to it ;) I have my 650 set up quite twitchy atm, with the forks pushed well through the yokes. It turns great, but it snatches the bars on the exit of turns and really unsettles the bike. Im hoping Ill be able to dial that out with the new frame whilst keeping the turning sharp.

Hey, yeah Ive ridden Mettet a few times, Think I use 2nd to 5th though round there. Ill hopefully be taking a 550 next year which I think will be a right weapon around there. Will help me in the dirt I hope. :D
The only reason Im not modding the carb, is that my 650 is going so well, I don't think I need to push anymore ponies out of it. It revs so sweetly, can pull rediculous gearing as I found out at a recent road race meeting (17:38 ;) ) lol! and with sumo gearing more like 16:44 it out runs some £13000 - £20000 bikes on the motard grid ;) So no need to make it more of a handful really, I love it as it is! 8)

Yeah I'm also locking forward to try my new frame "for real", out side on a faster track.

This was my first year att Mettet. What a great race! I will defintly go back there again next time around. Would be nice to race you there, you can overtake me in the dirt and I take you on the start/finish straight ;)

Haha! :D Cool, the 550 ive got is still pretty poky though, when I was racing with the lad who was riding it last season (him on this 550, me on my 650) I only out paced him when I put 6th gear in on a straight, and as you dont get to use 6th at mettet (in anger anyways) I dont recon it will be a problem
Im looking forward to Mettet already, its ace that place, I think Ive been 6 times all together now!

So,,,,, main question, can we have a blast??!!

Personally I want to have *** with your bike lol!!

Seriousley man, no *** with the wheels dude!! 8O I gotta race the thing still

Im sure if you happened to be riding at a practice day I was on you could steal a lap or 3 on the steed, no worries 8)

haha  fair enough. Do you go to Clarkey's at all?

middlesborough town centre, turn left and head to scotland, turn left at hadrian's wall, turn left at carlisle, turn left at morecombe, turn left at preston, turn left at......

as the crow flies = 53 miles
pete's route = 1,073 and-a-half miles

don't get me on about the length of eachof his legs......

But then I just have to put in 6th gear then?! :D
I use to have some wieght advantage, specally in the S2 class. So I still think I can overtake most of the riders on straights like the one in Mettet. Butt still will have to be on your tail, that might be harder :)

I promised myself that I will go to Mettet as long as I keep on racing! :)

Haha. Looked at the results now and we accually did race each other already! :) You finnished 9th in the Last chance and I made it to a 17th position.

1-0 Babbit vs Barrett :)

Ah cool! Yeah I think as long as Im racing Ill got to mettet. Its awesome isn't it. You know, I think my fastest lap this year was about 3 seconds faster than the previous year, and yet the year before I qualified for the semi's. Was definitely a more difficult format this last year. Was still ace though. A good mate of mine who went over with me came 6th in the final!! :D That alone made it one of the best 'mettets' for me, awesome!

Hopefully see you there this year! 8) 550 powerrrrrrrrr!
