More power to the FEE400

I have a Fee 400 2001 as a spare bike. I think it´s a great bike with very easy handling. But sometimes i miss some more power, not a lot, but maybe 10-15%. I´ve read the doc, and there are several things to do. I guess i like the carb/exhaust model best, but a Keihin is expensive and it seems to be a lot of work. So what would you recommend? I´m not expecting it to perform nearly as much as my 450 EXC.

It All Depends On Your Budget Really. Doing My Dads 400 nWith Second Hand And New Parts Cost £200. We Have Just Bought An FCR37 From The States For £30 And It'll Cost Around £75 To Have Machined Out To 39.
Using A '53 Cam,501 Headers And Some Proper Jetting In tHe Dellorto Made A Big Difference.

Taffy has been through most of this on his 01 400 and may have some good tips for you.

Just ask him!

regards,

Joe

Did it make so big a difference, that it could take a bigger front sprocket?
My jettings are just like described in THE DOC, i also made the slide cut away, is that what you call proper jettings?Or do i have to change it, if i change the cam and the headers?

RE: Re: RE: More power to the FEE400

your jetting will only marginally change with each change. you just have to be prepared to do it that's all.

in order of priority i'll detail all the changes i think you should do or consider:

the 53 or 55 cam -gutless and always have to be flogged BEFORE you fit it. afterwards you can let it lug one gear higher. can pay good money and go straight to the lineaweaver or tornado G2 cam.

keihin FCr-changes the character of the engine, less vibration, softer for the first yard then stronger all the way up to 3/4 throttle. dell orto as good from there.

headers and MX tailpipe are so cheap used that it's got to be done!

29mm exhausts cost good money but again worth it.

after this it's all tiny improvements.

ported head
better plug
belmouth mod

i still have the BV head and a proper racing system to try

regards

Taffy
