I've just bought a 2007 FE650 and i am wondering what are the modifications that you folks recommend? I have read on the forum that Dale's jet kit is a must, where do i get it and how much? Any suggestions would be appreciated. BTW i live in SLC, Utah elevations about 5000-8000 feet.

Thanks;
Paul

if it's jetted right by your dealer or you for your ride elevations temperatures, then no mods are necessary. It will run fine. With your range of temps and elevations, I would suggest an extended fuel screw for on trail fine tuning. also summer to winter temp variations in utah means probably a seasonal change of pilot fuel jets. If you want some brighter performance beyond stock needle and variation of fuel jets tuning, then Dale's kit is a good one for the Fe650e.

The bikes are covered in quality components. In My opinion, they don't need no stinkin mods, but the Husaberg force parts catalog has nice factory mods available like a tall seat, bar risers, and even after market pipe, etc. and there is a large tank now from BOSS and radiator guard, and a slid plate is available too, yada yada. full wrap hand guard systems that fit Ktms, will fit your bike as well

Utah on a Fe650e!!!! WOW congrats. have fun. give us a ride report!

essentially you can do that or get a needle from sudco. DMS is the needle of choice, that and a 35 and 38 PJ, also a 150MJ and even a 145 possibly for high altitude work. sparks has had great results with this set-up and although he hasn't said it i don't think he misses his lineaweaver needle.

other mods?
well dales cam is good although i'm unaware of anyone who has fitted one to a 2004+ bike as that year had an improved cam anyway. for us with the old 53/55 cam: a change to dale's LX2 was a distinct improvement. you need the top end LX1 cam as yours provides enough torque i think.

getting the right springs in for your rider weight is another important one. if you want to let us know how fat you are...

a MX tailpipe or even an aftermarket silencer will yield a bit - especially with the afor mentioned cam - this would give power all the way. 2mm oversize valves add more torque.

i did an air filter mod which i'm delightesd with - loads more stomp off the bottom. go read the doc for more info.

i would say jetting to suit ..

the motor is plenty faaaast !!!!

the suspension is where you should spend some time

Like Taffy says I am using a DMS needle clip #4 needle on his recommendation 150 MJ, 40 PJ, 65 MAJ or just over 1/2 a turn on Dales adjuster air screw,1.5 turns out on the PMS the AP is disconnected and so is my TPS.
These setting my require small amounts of adjustment depending on your altitude I am just above sea level here.

No hesitation no bogging pulls hard at any rev range, so I cant' understand why some people still insist on running large pilot and main jets not only does it waste fuel you are not benefiting from the full power of the engine.

If you think these carbs are jetted from the factory to suit then you couldn't be further away from the truth, as I found out last year with another manufacture.

Sparks.

Saltybird,
If you plan to register it the Baja Designs components will help you get it street legal.
The addition of a quality skid plate and rotor guards helps. My rear Scott's Shark fin and Topar front rotor guard both show lots of knicks so I know that they work.
As mentioned above get the suspension dialed in for your weight and riding style.
Even though the bikes are very good in stock form I have fun adding stuff. None of it is "window dressing" but neither is most of it essential.
Full Dual Sport package including Trail Tech Stator and Regulator; registered in Nevada; Topar Front rotor guard, Rekluse e-axle; Carbon fiber fork tube protectors; Cooling Fan Assy.,Lineaweaver carb kit (AP disconnected), G2 throttle Cam Kit; BRP hand guard kit; Flexx handlebars; billet triple clamps: Scott low mount damper; Revloc clutch; Rekluse left front rear brake (foot brake eliminated); Garmin 276c GPS, Boss big tank, and TM Designworks rear chain guide.
Stock gearing works good in the open spaces. Tires are a matter of choice. Ditch the stock ones.
I've been buying bikes since 1969 and this is the best one of the bunch. Have fun.
