G'day all, I'm looking at buying a new 07/08 FE650, i've been sifting through this great site and have come across the issue "Main Bearing Failure" a few too many times, Has anyone changed these bearings to different ones or is there any pre-ventative maintenance to do on them to stop them failing? , Or should i not be worried about it? I'm very meticulous with my maintenance schedules. ie: Always fresh oil, valves checked, clean air filter etc etc.
Cheers in advance, Camo........ 8)

Hallo.
Keep on riding, if it happens, claim warrenty.
You have to open the engine to see if there is any wear on the parts.
When it starts to sound bad, stopp the engine faster than the speed of light, replace broken parts, go out and have fun again.
I have friends who rides 100hrs, no problem at all, overhaul at that time and runns another 100hrs.
Then there is the unlucky ones, it brakes without any reason and after 2hrs.
Dont worry just ride as there is no tomorrow.
Regards
Thomas

Hello

i am with the lucky ones ?i have a 2004 650cc with now 80hours on it,and I do not known the main bearing problem.

The only thing I had was lossen nut at the crank at 50hours,and at 78hours one broken valve spring;

So far no problem.

Hi,

well, 80h isn´t that much.
But I wish you the best for the next stage. And don´t madden yourself.

You´re right, you could have had more problems. But you´re telling us something about another
broken valve spring. That´s really annoying.

It is also going to be a typical problem of 2004/2005 models. What a shame.
To be on the safe side, I now exchanged the conical srpings to the double springs from the ´98 model.

So far, after 130h I didn´t have a problem with my 450 ´04. Recently I just modified my engine to ball bearings for the crank and the dbl valve springs for reasons of precaution.

The rest of my engine is absolutely in best condition.
:p

Camo,

just buy the Berg and have fun!!! No matter for beeing worried.
Till today I haven´t heard anything about failed ´07 bearings. Even not ´06?!

G'day camo
I have to agree that reading around this site does scare you and put lots of doubts in your mind.
But if you read between the lines its' more of a problem for the motos than the dirt riders.
IMHO if your gunna rev the crap out of it on the tar then worry...worry lots.
If not then get out, have a blast and forget about the mains.
