Main bearings, setting the crank end play

Hello Gentlemen

Berg is still in pieces due to main bearing crash last september. Now i'm putting things back
together and have some questions..

I am planning to install SKF NJ206 ACP /C3 HVC058 roller bearings, both sides+weld crank pin to halves.Pictures coming when it is done.

Any comments of these bearings?Big guys told me that these last well also in SM use if the crank halves are weld to rod pin and slipper clutch used? Planned end play 0.7..0.8mm.Should the crank have in the middle
position end play 0.4mm to both directions or does it matter?

the crank will find it's own position in the middle of the cases with 0.4mm float each end.

as for bearings, it's hard to give a definitive answer but you might be interested in the latest bearings that enginewhardwear are using presently.

look in the doc for engine upgrades or go into search to find the really long main bearing thread. i would suggest that if it is an improvement that the whole thing has swung back the way of the ball-race bearing.

Thanks Taffy, that is what I wanted to hear about crank position.

I was strongly recommended to put ball bearing to other side at workshop..
They are not familiar with berg engines so they could not believe that crank is not
locked at all sideways.

Bearing type issue is difficult, all setups seem to be recommended(?) depending whom you ask.I think I'll stay with the rollers,we'll see if that was good decision..

PS. These rollers have sligthly beveled edges, so they can cope with SMALL crank flex

as i'm aware the expansion and contraction ot the very fiorst start up sorts all this out? like a man trying to get out of a pair of overalls the crank will crawl to it's natural positon.

with straight cut gear for drive from the crank this "left or rifght" stuff is, IMHO, bollocks!

life is full of 'cocks' who try and sound "knowledgeable" by being "disgusted" at various things. the best form of ignorance (defence) is attack.

see how you get on, i don't think there is a lot in it if you aren't SM'ing the bike?

regards

Taffy

My Berg is coming for SM use, that is reason for all the questions..

I told these guys that both side rollers set up is very commonly
known among professional engine builders..that ended the discussion.
