Name is Anthony had a badass 1997 501 completed custome can check out cool video search foster 4 mile wheelie. It's a good one. Just dropped some $$ on a 2007 fe 650 converted to super Moto my other is also jus wondering what is the smal things I need to check befour I thrash it has 2000 mi on it I know same basic motor as 501 just wondering if any thing in particular I need to address. Check that the exhaust can is spaced out far enough. My 5" rear with a 160 was hitting it, not rubbing, hitting as in the can was acting as a bumpstop. It cracked the rim @ the dimples, 8 in total. A very small black mark on the can is the tell that it's hitting (vs rubbing, making a large black tire mark.)

This on a factory FS650 2005 model..

I ended up buying a wheel and then "clearancing" the silencer to solve it. I coupldnt space it out far enough. It still rubs, but passes by it.

Take the shock loose on the top to check it.


Change the oil, check the valves.. Check or change the brake fluid if its dirty. I disconnected the TPS on mine a couple years ago, and got a much better behaving bike for off the pavement. It eliminated the popping on decel as well.

Check the oil daily and learn what level it should be at when hot.

That's about it. There's not a whole lot needed apart from maybe hand guards, and seat improvement..
