Low speed cut out 390

As I am totally new to the fuel injection malarky I am in need of some advice First time out on the 390, 40 mile road ride to get to the trails and some moderate speed stuff bike was running like a dream While doing some low speed stuff the bike just cut out as if it had run out of fuel A few stabs on the button and it started coughed and died Then it started ran for a mile and then stopped again. Back on to some high speed stuff ran perfect Again a slow section the bike died and wouldn't start to the point it had to be bumped off. Bike then runs perfect for some 80 miles of road work ? What's the problem PLEASE :furious: This what I assume to be a fuelling issue ruined my first ride on the bike

sounds like it might be the standard fuel filter and fuel pump issues? what model is it?

the fix can be an updated filter in the injector and/or a new fuel pump

haven't encountered these myself so don't want to speak with any authority - hopefully this helps with finding more info!

Cheers Tourist its a 2011 FE390 with 5000 miles on it or 164hrs
Ive only just bought it It has a fuel sock in it and seems to have been looked after. I have read the posts re fuel pumps But being used to a carb it's all new to me Thanks again

Hey again,

This thread is a very good overview: Known issues, problems, commons mods Husaberg FE390 FE450 FE570 70 degrees - ADVrider

Dodgy fuel pump on pre-Oct 2011 models: All good on bikes made after that date. Only a possible issue if buying a secondhand Berg and it hasn't been replaced yet... although I assume if it has lasted a few years then it's probably all good or the original owner's fitted the new one. There's a thread around somewhere on Unofficial Husaberg about identifying if you have the original crap pump or it has been replaced.

Mesh too fine on pre-2012 inline fuel filters: Pre-2012 models had too fine a screen which was prone to blocking, but Husaberg have now got the correct gague mesh in the 2012 models sent to the dealers (assuming the dealer did actually fit them!). Owners of earlier models just removed the screen completely but ran the risk of crap clogign up the fuel injection. Also, the older filters would swell and restrict fuel when they heated up (easy fix is fitting a Can-am fuel filter apparently). A fuel filter sock is a common mod... sits under your fuel cap in the opening to the fuel tank and should lengthen the life and service intervals of your fuel injection.

... maybe also the tip about cleaning the injector?

Thanks Tourist, I am now looking for a workshop manual (I have the service/owners manual) 'I've purchased every fuel filter for the bike but have zero idea where they go except the one that fits in the fuel filler and I've already got one of those fitted. It has also been suggested that it could be a dodgy spark plug or plug cap / or simply overheating as it runs fine on the road ( it was only 2 degrees at the time so I believe this is unlikely. Anyways still love the bike I just need it to be just right.

you may want to pull spark plug cap off from wire(unscrew) to check for corrosion.I've had to cut mine back a couple of times( 1/4"), but I deal with lots of mud and water...

Hi I have had a very same issue going on for months now:-( bugging me like hell ,
Things I've read and carried out.

Check injector and clean throttle body,
New spark plug

New ice cool coolant ,

Checked compression to ensure not head gasket ,

Exhaust bandage to keep heat from fuel tank.
My symptoms are the same cuts out when hot then stalls and after a few mins after starting backfire and cough and splutter .
Really love the bike but I've not entered any races this year as I've just lost confidence.
Hope this helps some light on your issue buddy

how "hot" is the engine getting? If you are riding around slow for too long then I believe you have a pump issue. Replace pump... If it's not the pump, well at least you have a spare, but I would start there.

To the OP... Is your pipe wrapped and heat reflector tape on bottom of tank. Since it is just at slow speeds could be boiling gas. Had this problem as well when slow and gas boils (can hear it boiling when shut down) keeping the heat from the gas helped me...

cut out

electrical problem.
I have had issues with the spark plug wire getting rusty where it screws into the plug cap.
My bro had a bad plug wire that was arcing to the radiator when doing water crossings... bike wouldnt start without giving it gas... when it dried out it ran fine.
Kill switch wiring?
or batt. terminals?
otherwise I'm stumped.
My fuel pump actually popped out of it's housing before causing some obvious issues.

Right just a quick update guys, I've tried everything so afraid to say I've resulted to taking to dealer.
They checked fuel pressure and it's extremely low at 1.5 bar.
They suspect fuel pump but I've changed this :-(, I've asked them to change the filters b4 changing the pump and go from there

Might have a kinked hose in there, I remember a member replaced a fuel pump and one of those plastic lines kinked over and developed a hole.

Amazingly it was a filter blocked and incorrect filter used.
Never use aftermarket filters there not high pressure aparantly and it's collapse has caused the fuel restriction .
